Business Interiors, a MillerKnoll Furniture Dealer, is looking for a Designer for our rapidly growing company. This position can be located in our Tallahassee, FL or Gainesville, FL office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design Development: Create innovative and practical design solutions tailored for commercial, healthcare, government, and educational facilities.
  • Client Collaboration: Understand the client’s culture, brand identity, budgets, and specific needs for the space.
  • Conceptualization: Develop initial design concepts through space planning, product selection, and renderings.
  • Specifications: Prepare detailed drawings, finish selections, bill of materials, and determine current list pricing.
  • Trend Research: Stay current with the latest design trends, materials, and technologies.
  • Communication: Provide timely communication with team, clients, and vendors, by responding to inquiries through preferred communication methods. Attend and participate in weekly team meetings. Build and maintain strong relationships with team and clients.
  • Trade Collaboration: Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate design plans into overall building plan, ensuring all elements follow code regulations and align seamlessly.
  • Issue Resolution: Coordinate with project team to provide value engineering, alternative layouts, or product solutions.
  • Training and Development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance knowledge and skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in client meetings to determine project needs.
  • Lead live design sessions at client meetings.
  • Meet with the project team to review scope of work, budgets, and other qualifying information.
  • Verify field dimensions against drawing.
  • Create furniture floorplans taking into consideration architectural elements, power, data, switches, thermostats, plumbing, and ADA regulations.
  • Create 3D drawings, elevations, and renderings.
  • Independently make decisions on overall design, finishes, and furniture selections.
  • Create presentations and visual packages for client approval.
  • Generate and request custom solutions.
  • Create specifications and apply current discounting.
  • Check drawings against specifications.
  • Create revisions as needed.
  • Create SIF file with current pricing to send to the Client Services Project Manager at least twenty-four hours prior to proposal delivery due date to the client.
  • Create installation drawings and send them to the Client Services Project Manager within two weeks of the order date.
  • Create permit drawings.
  • Collaborate with Field Services or Client Services Project Manager to answer questions and problem solve on-site installation issues.
  • Create punch list drawings and specifications.
  • Provide required bid and proposal responses.
  • Provide spec checks for fellow designers.
  • Follow standards set for the Design Department and adhere to the company’s Core Values.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and accurate design log to track project progress and changes.
  • Attend and participate in weekly project team meetings and internal design training sessions.
  • Complete required trainings courses as assigned by the Design Director.
  • Keep current on software capabilities and updates.
  • Actively engage with manufacturer partnerships through lunch and learns and online training, and review communication from manufacturers to track the latest trends, new product options, and pricing updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.


COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience: One year of experience in interior design or design internship program, preferred.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD. Experience with CET or Cap 2020 is preferred. Furniture software experience is a plus.
  • Skills: Ability to read specifications and floor plans. Understanding of how to select materials and finishes per application. Space planning following ADA and building safety guidelines.
  • Creativity: Ability to use creativity to produce beautiful functional spaces, overcome space limitations, and budget restrictions.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail, with a focus on delivering quality outcomes and meeting client expectations.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and collaborate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address design challenges and constraints with innovative solutions.
  • Team Player: Ability to collaborate with internal teams and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adjust priorities and changing goals.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May be required to lift up to fifteen pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time while using a computer.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel will be required to client offices, jobsites, or other Business Interiors offices.
