The Navy is updating legacy software and systems to move towards modern tools and practices. This DevOps role will be involved in the installation, integration, and testing of prototype Navy tactical software and supporting Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery of mature software.The individual will work with a small team based out of Manassas, VA, but will also be responsible for collaborating with a larger community of organizations and government representatives from across the country. The individual will work with limited supervision to develop and implement cybersecurity and data management solutions for inclusion in future tactical systems. This role requires an imaginative thinker and problem solver with demonstrated interest in all aspects of DevOps infrastructure. This position is located in Manassas, VA. This position is a hybrid position with remote work options and flexible schedules.What will you do?The DevOps Engineer will help prototype and develop platform-as-a-service features for data management and cybersecurity for the next generation tactical system being deployed to the US Navy submarine fleet. The selected candidate will work with small teams on prototyping efforts that span a broad spectrum of computer technologies, including server, VM and container management, cybersecurity, data management, and networks. Additional work will include maintaining unclassified and classified on-premise cloud infrastructure, and developing CI/CD pipelines to automate the delivery, installation, integration, and testing of Navy tactical software. Additional work will include prototyping efforts that span a broad spectrum of computer technologies, including server, VM and container management, cybersecurity, data management, and networks.Lead a small team of junior DevOps engineers.Conceive, develop, and evaluate novel engineering solutions to address the unique requirements of the maritime environmentPrototype data architecture and/or cyber security tools and solutionsEvaluate commercial and open-source products for use in CI/CD pipelines and in a PaaSIntegrate 3rd party applicationsParticipate in cross-domain working groups to coordinate prototyping efforts and brief results to senior engineersDesign, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, PaaS, and PaaS ServicesAssist in maintaining server bays in both unclassified and Secret lab environmentsIntegrate and/or containerize 3rd party applicationsProvide and update technical documentation for all work performed.Do you have what it takes?Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology4+ years’ experience as a DevOps Engineer (or similar role)Extensive experience using Linux (RHEL 7, 8, or 9)Highly proficient with Virtual Machines and related tools such as ProxmoxProficient with physical server and switch managementHighly proficient with modern PaaS environment tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Podman, KVM, and HelmExperience with shell scripting languagesExcellent verbal and written communication skills.Initiative, innovation, and resourcefulness.US Citizen with current SECRET Clearance or ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.Successful completion of background checkDesired Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:Prior experience in the SWFTS environment or with other US Navy tactical/weapon systems is desirable.Additional cybersecurity certs or experienceExperience with Automated TestingExperience developing software with C++ or JavaExtensive experience as a Linux administratorExperience with secure computing technologies; SELinux, PKI, zero-trust networks, etc.Networking experience ApplyVTG offers a comprehensive benefits package which includes Medical, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, Flexible Schedules, Pet Insurance, 401(k) Retirement, Education Assistance, Student Loan Repayment, Life Insurance, Short & Long Term Disability, and more!
