Job Role: Database Platform Engineer (Devops/Sre) Location: Lisbon, Portugal Contract: Permanent About the roleMy client are looking for someone to take ownership of our database platforms across a modern, cloud based environment. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, platform and security, with a strong focus on performance, reliability and scalability.You’ll be working closely with application and platform teams to ensure our data layer is robust, efficient and built to scale. This is a hands on position for someone who enjoys solving complex performance challenges and building well engineered, reliable systems.What you’ll be doingOwn the performance and stability of database platforms across production environmentsDrive improvements in query performance, indexing strategies and overall database efficiencyWork with engineering teams on schema design and data modelling aligned to real workloadsDesign and maintain highly available systems, including replication, failover and backup strategiesDefine and test disaster recovery processes to ensure resilience and recovery objectives are metEstablish and track SLIs and SLOs for database performance, availability and reliabilityBuild out monitoring, alerting and observability for database health and performanceContribute to incident response and lead root cause analysis when issues ariseApply security best practices across database environments, including access control and encryptionAutomate database provisioning and operations using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelinesStandardise configurations and practices to ensure consistency across environmentsWhat they’re looking forStrong hands-on experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases in production environmentsSolid understanding of performance tuning, query optimisation, indexing and data modellingExperience defining and working with SLIs/SLOs for reliability and performanceExperience working with cloud-based database services Good knowledge of high availability, replication and disaster recovery approachesExperience with monitoring, alerting and operational metrics for data platformsComfortable working with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar) and CI/CD pipelinesFamiliarity with security controls such as IAM, encryption and secrets managementStrong Linux fundamentals and scripting experience Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and work effectively under pressure
