Diagnostic Medical SonographerAt Mahaska Health, the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer provides patient care and technical skills in the operation of ultrasound diagnostic equipment for diagnostic and evaluation purposes.$10,000 Sign-on BonusHiring for: Full-time & Part-timeResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions include but are not limited to:Prepares patient for ultrasound procedure by accurately assessing patient's needs and providing patient education.Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information and images.Operates ultrasound equipment for data acquisition, reconstruction, and documentation of images and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring quality images.Assists radiologists and qualified providers with special procedures (biopsies, aspiration, etc.).Follows protocols established by a radiologist for each ultrasound procedure.Prepares patients images for interpretation by radiologists.Confirms patient identification by two patient identifiers.As necessary, consults with a radiologist and/or other providers regarding procedures.Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies, and monitors outdated.Reports equipment failures to the appropriate staff member.Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination.Ensures cleanliness of ultrasound equipment and room and maintains supplies for the ultrasound area.Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographers care.Delivers quality patient care with respect for patient rights, dignity, and age-specific needs. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policy & Procedure.Checks for proper orders, lab results, signed informed consents, and patient preps for all ultrasound procedures.Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.Coordinates work schedule with scheduling desk to ensure workload coverage.Willingness to adapt to changes in workload, procedures, and schedule.Additional duties assigned.QualificationsRequirements include but are not limited to:Graduate of an accredited radiologic health science program or School of Ultrasonography; and registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or be registry eligible.Prefer prior sonographer experience.Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association.Required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at time of hire or attend within 6 months of start date.Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
