We are located at 26664 Elwood International Port Road Elwood, Illinois 60421   Responsibilities: Overview:We are seeking a highly skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our dedicated maintenance team at the railyard. In this essential role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and electrical systems on a fleet of semi-trucks, trailers, and hostler vehicles. You will ensure all equipment is kept in top working condition by performing regular maintenance, responding to breakdowns, and ensuring safety standards are met at all times.Key Responsibilities:Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines (Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit) to maintain optimal performance.Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems using schematics, ensuring all wiring and components are functioning correctly.Perform preventive maintenance on tractors, trailers, and hostler trucks to minimize downtime.Conduct full vehicle assessments and execute timely repairs on both scheduled and unscheduled service calls.Maintain detailed service records of work completed, parts replaced, and maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with safety and company standards.Monitor and adhere to routine maintenance schedules, making sure all equipment receives necessary attention on time.Communicate findings and repair needs effectively with the maintenance supervisor and team to prioritize and allocate resources appropriately. Qualifications: 1–3 years of experience working as a diesel mechanic, with experience on semi-trucks, trailers, or hostler vehicles. Proficiency in diagnostic tools and mechanical repairs, including diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Ability to work with schematics and troubleshoot electrical issues effectively.Familiarity with maintenance scheduling systems and keeping accurate service records.Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skillsExperience with hostlers and forklifts is a plusExperience with electric trucks is a plusKnowledge of all diesel engine systems, including fuel, electrical, cooling, and exhaustMust be able to lift 50 lbs and work in all weather conditionsMust own necessary tools for the jobWillingness to work in varying weather conditionsMust own necessary tools for the jobValid Driver’s LicenseMust pass a pre-employment background verification, physical and drug screeningThe Federal Rail Administration sets and enforces safety regulations and standards for railroad operations. Use of cannabis is strictly prohibited. If applicable for the position you are applying to, and if you are offered the position, you will have to take and pass a drug screen. Open availabilityPreferred Experience:ASE Certification or equivalent is a plusExperience with Caterpillar, Cummins, and Detroit diesel engines.Experience with hostler trucks and terminal tractors.Welding or fabrication skills a plus.Experience working in an intermodal yard or rail yard environment.We offer competitive pay, medical/dental/vision benefits, 401(k), paid training, career advancement and more.
