Recruitment Range - $40,442 - $55,608
Salary Grade: NC10

Primary Purpose of this Position:
Digital Media Coordinator will serve as the digital, media and communications services support for the North Carolina Zoo. Position involves planning, developing, and executing communication strategies that promote the Zoo and its programs to the public. The key focus of the Digital Media Coordinator is to assist with raising the public perception of the brand, promote the Zoos mission and market the Zoo experience.

Selected candidate must be a creative, strategic and analytical thinker that works well in a team environment, takes direction and manages projects with limited supervision. The position will work on the Communications team, assisting with developing new content for social media and web, digital advertising, and other marketing functions. Position interacts directly with the Public Relations Officer, Director of Communications and Marketing, Lead Digital Media Specialist and senior management staff throughout the park. Under general supervision, the employee is required to exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgment in performing work assignments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute the social media strategy through postings, planning, platform determination and adhering to brand messaging.
  • Support and help execute the teams plan on optimizing social channels for maximizing traffic and engagement.
  • Communicate with social media followers and appropriately respond to queries in a timely manner and monitor customer conversations.
  • Routinely capture and analyze the appropriate social engagement data and metrics, insights and best practices, and use that information to advise future social strategy.
  • Assist with and execute digital marketing strategy and ensure these programs meet timelines, budgets and are executed with excellence.
  • Assist with implementation and execution of communication team-related activities such as special events and media tours.
  • Plan, submit and maintain area/regional/state digital and traditional calendars with up-to-date info on Zoos events and programs.
  • Assist team with digital asset management (photos, videos, audio, etc.)
  • Assist the creative team in miscellaneous production tasks including finding produced images and video footage as requested. Example: assist with getting image approvals from senior management staff for the creative team.
  • Assist team in writing projects such as ad copy, press releases, media alerts, social copy and website copy.
  • Collaborate with internal Zoo teams to cultivate and elevate mission-based activities or programs.
Position Requirements:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some work weekends, holidays, and after hour events.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Demonstrated working experience in social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. for audience engagement.
  • Demonstrated working experience with third party social media management such as HootSuite, Sprout, Agora Pulse, etc.
  • Demonstrated working experience managing paid social media and digital ad campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experienced writing according to correct English usage and accepted standards of media outlets.
  • Proven skills in writing and editing of copy in varying lengths and subject matter.
Management Prefers -
  • Preferred experience with SEO and Google Adwords.
  • AP style writing experience preferred.
  • Must have a good understanding of aspect ratios and basic photo editing. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs is a plus.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism, English,
or related field from an appropriately accredited institution;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
