Job Description

The Director – Engineering is responsible for the overall management, direction, and strategic planning of the Engineering Department at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. This position oversees the maintenance, repair, and operation of all building systems, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure safety, efficiency, and functionality throughout the property. The Director provides leadership to the Engineering team, manages capital improvement projects, ensures compliance with applicable codes and regulations, and supports the resort’s commitment to superior guest service and operational excellence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for the growth, efficiency, and reliability of all facilities operations across the resort and casino.
  • Formulate and implement short- and long-term facilities and engineering goals aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and business objectives.
  • Inspect facilities regularly to ensure compliance with codes, safety regulations, and internal quality standards.
  • Oversee daily maintenance schedules and coordinate ongoing projects with work orders to ensure minimal disruption to casino and resort operations.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other critical infrastructure systems.
  • Manage and oversee carpentry, painting, general maintenance, and groundskeeping to ensure timely, quality results.
  • Lead, supervise, and direct facilities staff through subordinate managers; oversee recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Develop, manage, and forecast the annual departmental budget, including personnel, operations, and capital improvement projects.
  • Evaluate and approve contractor proposals and submittals for facility-related projects, renovations, and new infrastructure development.
  • Review, recommend, and implement updates to policies, procedures, and regulations for continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Risk Management to ensure a safe environment for guests, team members, and contractors, enforcing all safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for senior leadership and regulatory agencies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide strong leadership, vision, and motivation to a diverse team of facilities professionals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and service excellence.
  • Oversee staff recruitment, selection, orientation, and training, while ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies.
  • Set clear expectations, monitor performance, and deliver regular coaching, recognition, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Develop systems, policies, and productivity standards to enhance efficiency and team success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and direct large-scale facilities operations, including building and grounds maintenance.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, painting, paving, grading, and general engineering systems.
  • Experience in inventory control, budget development, and cost management. Knowledge of cogeneration plant systems is preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional certification is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical), and facility operations best practices.
  • Experience overseeing large-scale capital projects, maintenance programs, and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Prior experience managing budgets, vendor contracts, and strategic planning for engineering or facilities departments.
  • Experience working in a hospitality, gaming, or high-volume, fast-paced environment strongly preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES & REGISTRATIONS:

Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required. Must maintain a valid California Driver’s License and eligibility for coverage under Morongo’s insurance requirements.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.

WORKING HOURS:

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
