Job Description:
The Director of Communications will assist the Mayor, Chief of Staff, and senior administration officials in developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy for the City of Baltimore. This position involves overseeing citywide communications, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with the Mayor's Office goals. The Director will manage a team of communications personnel, coordinate media relations, and lead the creation of city collateral and marketing materials. This role also involves managing crisis communications and ensuring the Mayor and senior staff are prepared for public appearances.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Mayor and Chief of Staff to create a vision statement and core messaging principles for the administration.
- Ensure city communications staff consistently promote Mayoral priorities.
- Oversee the Mayor's communications department, including internal reporting, personnel management, and the approval of external materials.
- Manage opportunities to develop and enhance city marketing content, including newsletters, brochures, and social media.
- Develop and implement long-term communications strategies, including key events, announcements, and speaking engagements.
- Create and manage a citywide crisis communications program, including external communications plans and media relations.
- Oversee logistical details for Mayoral public appearances, including briefings, press materials, and event coordination.
- Develop strategies to expand city agency reach on social media and digital platforms.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Extensive experience in communications and media relations, preferably in public administration or related fields.
- Skills: Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and crisis communication skills. Ability to manage a team, develop content, and engage with media.
