Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development, the Director of Development for the College of Education (CED) is responsible for securing major gifts of $25,000+ for the university with a specific focus on programs and activities in CED as well as corporate partners across the University.

The Director of Development, CED will serve as the primary development officer engaged in donor identification, prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and communication for gifts. This position will work directly with the college dean and faculty to provide strategic leadership to generate an increasing number and amount of major and principal gifts while assessing philanthropic giving priorities and matching them to potential prospects to benefit the college and university.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development and Fundraising: Identify, cultivate, and solicit philanthropic gifts of $25,000 and greater from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support students, faculty, programs, and departments within the CED.
  • Collaborate with URD (VP and AVP for Development) and CED to identify departmental philanthropic priorities and create successful development strategies for each one.
  • Collaborate with other CSULB Directors of Development in the implementation of the overall strategy of the Division of University Relations and Development and university.
  • Identify, recruit and train volunteers to support the development programs within CED.
  • Write such materials (e.g., case statement, prospectus, brochures, etc.) as are necessary for the fund-raising tasks of CED.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the solicitation process in an educational environment. Proficient in identifying and building a pipeline of future donors. Ability to create major gift philanthropic priorities with the College leadership and create development strategies for success. Excellent planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills. Strong competency in oral and written communication. Effective supervisor in managing college's development office and its staff. Ability to work independently without close supervision. Self direction in the initiation, coordination, and completion of tasks is essential.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"vision of excellence.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of one year of related experience required.

Demonstrated successful major gift fundraising experience including donor identification, cultivation, and solicitation preferred.

Experience in higher education preferred.

Physical Summary

  • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Hiring Range: $6,918 - $7,084 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,918 - $10,378 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring departments fiscal resources.

Benefits

This is a management level position with an attractive benefits package, which includes a vacation accrual rate of 16 hours per month, and excellent choice of medical, dental, and vision insurance, long term disability coverage, life insurance, educational fee waiver, and retirement benefits.
