Director Of Drayage Apply
Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 base (DOE) + commission

About the Role
We are seeking a Director of Drayage to oversee and optimize all container drayage operations, including port, rail, terminal, and customer movements. This position is responsible for improving service performance, managing carrier and terminal relationships, reducing operational costs, and ensuring compliance with drayage regulations. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in drayage and transportation operations, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to make strategic decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, scale, and optimize day-to-day drayage operations across port and rail networks
- Develop strategic plans to reduce costs, improve service levels, and enhance customer satisfaction
- Monitor operational KPIs including on-time performance, carrier utilization, transit time, and cost per move
- Build and maintain relationships with ports, shipping lines, chassis providers, carriers, terminals, and customers
- Stay current on port congestion, rail trends, demurrage/detention risks, and accessorial impacts
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including environmental and safety standards
- Collaborate with leadership to align operational goals with broader business strategy
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation for drayage operations
- Mentor and lead transportation/operations teams to foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Identify process efficiencies and technology solutions that streamline execution
- Monitor market trends and competitive landscape to maintain an efficient and resilient drayage network
Required Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in drayage transportation, port/rail operations, or logistics operations leadership
- Strong understanding of drayage routing, chassis pools, container flow, and regulatory requirements
- Proven track record in operational optimization, carrier management, or P&L responsibility (preferred)
- Ability to manage high-pressure operational challenges with urgency and problem-solving discipline
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and transportation systems/tools (TMS preferred)
- Strong leadership and communication skills

- Base salary: $70,000 – $90,000 DOE + bonus/commission potential
