What Youll Do

Anshe Emet Synagogue seeks an experienced and dynamic professional to be its Director of Programming and Engagement. Synagogue programming has become a signature item for Anshe Emet. Building on the strong foundation of current classes and programs and passion of Jewish community, the Director will take our current, robust programming to even greater heights and adapt it to the changing landscape of synagogue life. Synagogue programming has historically served an active and dynamic community of adult learners offering a broad spectrum of well-attended classes, seminars, lectures, blood drives, cooking demonstrations, Light and Latkes (annual Chanukah celebration featuring famous chefs) a biannual adult retreat, book club, Israeli film series, engagement opportunities with Bright Star church, a successful pancake breakfast during Purim, Melton program, and holiday-specific programming. We believe that exciting and diverse programming encourages an engaged membership and Anshe Emet is recognized as an engaged community. Anshe Emet (aside from July and August) has as many as 14 programs per month under this department. Anshe Emet believes that the right candidate will build relationships and will engage community members through these creative programs and will connect congregants to each other and to the clergy.

The hours for this position are non-traditional. There are evening and weekend events that will occur.

In addition, programming has engaged a greater number of members through committees, including Sisterhood, Mens Club, Young Couples Group, NaAseh (Tikkun Olam Committee), Inclusion, 20s & 30s, the Caring Network, Mitzvah Day, and Arts Engagement. This position includes programming to support these committees and groups.

During the pandemic, we quickly pivoted to include a sophisticated hybrid element. This element continues as we move forward. Families value the hybrid environment that we offer. The right candidate will understand the AV process and how to engage the wider community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspire and execute ambitious Synagogue Programming vision
  • Ideate, explore, and implement innovative program ideas
  • Work closely with the Senior Rabbi and lay leadership
  • Understand the current goals for Adult Education and Synagogue Programming and take them to new heights
  • Lead the budget process for the Programming & Engagement department
  • Provide general management and administration of Synagogue Programming
  • Partner with Communications team on appropriate strategy to engage both AES membership and the wider community
  • Work closely with Director of Communications to make sure that events are publicized appropriately to ensure excellent attendance
  • Execute partnerships with outside organizations that further our programmatic goals
  • Ability to teach Adult Education classes would be a plus
  • Sisterhood and Men's Club Liaison

  • Strong Jewish knowledge
  • At least 5 years experience
