The Education Department has existed for over ten years, is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), and is accredited by the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET). The Education Department is an unparalleled component of Children's Habilitation Center. Our education program is unique because staff members must address the students'/residents' educational needs with each sensory stimulation provided within our environment.
Our curriculum is delivered holistically through different sensory stimulations while complying with local and state academic standards. Our students/residents must be instructed with the same academic curriculum and standardized assessments, using modifications and accommodations, as students/residents without physical and cognitive challenges.
The Director of Education develops and manages the delivery of meaningful experiences for all audiences and consumers of Children's Habilitation Center programs. The education director must be committed to improving teaching practices through collaboration with staff, community members, and students. You should be able to use new and existing resources to ensure student needs are met and educational goals are achieved. You will authorize textbook acquisitions and, on occasion, be tasked with writing your educational materials.
To be successful as an education director, you should stay up to date with pedagogical theories (processes of upbringing, teaching, learning, and social and cultural development) and developments in education. An exceptional education director should have superb people skills and confidently engage individuals from various backgrounds and disciplines. You should be energetic, enthusiastic, and able to communicate objectives.
If you choose a career with CHC, you will Review lesson plans. Adheres to annual medical requirements. Maintain compliance with ISBE and educational guidelines in the NCLB Act. Understand and enforce Faith's Law. Supervise and manage the Education Department and department employees. Develops academic curriculum and programs to meet the needs of the students. Participates in team conferences and Individual Program Plan (IPP). Oversees Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences to prepare initial and annual IEPs as needed. Ensure all department documentation is completed within ten days of the month's end. Oversee administration of IAA examinations. Maintain accurate records, including attendance. Evaluate student progress against IEP/IPP. Provide progress reports to parents and school districts. Prepare status and progress reports as required. Assist in the planning of and participation in field trips. Serves on committees as assigned. Abides by CHC policies. Maintain current licensure/certificate. Provides for professional development opportunities. Takes the lead in registering children for school by communicating and being the liaison between" home based District " and registering in our CHC school.
