This isn’t a traditional maintenance role.You’ll be working in a live manufacturing environment, combining hands-on engineering with controls, automation, and process improvement. The focus is on keeping equipment running, but also understanding how it works and how it can be improved.There’s a key focus on a major product areas so you’ll be closely involved in process development work, not just day-to-day support.Electrical & Controls Engineer (Manufacturing)Saffron Walden£50,000 to £55,000 + BenefitsFull-time, permanent (37.5 hours per week)ResponsibilitiesSupport and improve production equipment across electrical, mechanical, and control systemsFault find and modify PLC-controlled systems (Siemens preferred)Work with control systems, instrumentation, and process equipmentInterpret and work from P&IDs and technical drawingsSupport process improvements, optimisation, and equipment upgradesAssist with new equipment integration, commissioning, and validationWork closely with operations, engineering, and technical teamsRemain hands-on, supporting breakdowns where requiredRequirements:Experience in a manufacturing or process-driven environmentStrong understanding of PLCs and control systems (Siemens / TIA Portal ideal)Exposure to process systems and the ability to interpret P&IDsElectro-mechanical capability with a hands-on approachExperience supporting or improving automated equipmentComfortable working across controls, mechanical, and process aspectsProactive mindset with the ability to identify and implement improvementsWhy?A hands-on role with a strong controls and process focus.Involvement in process development, not just maintenance.Opportunity to take ownership of equipment and improvements.Specialist manufacturing environment within medical and optical materials.If you’re looking for something that combines hands-on engineering with controls and process work, drop me a message or email lewis@cranleighstem.co.uk
