Role Purpose: We are seeking an experienced Electrical Protection and Control Design Engineer to deliver detailed designs for HV and EHV substation projects. The role ensures technically robust and compliant protection and control systems that support construction, testing, and commissioning.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design of protection and control systems from concept through IFC (Issued for Construction).Develop and review protection schemes, settings, coordination studies, single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and interlocking/tripping logic.Specify and select protection relays and IEDs to meet project requirements.Conduct protection grading and fault studies using tools like ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or PSCAD.Ensure compliance with relevant standards and support design risk assessments and technical queries.Collaborate with project teams, construction/commissioning engineers, and external stakeholders.Contribute to factory acceptance testing (FAT) documentation and site commissioning strategies.Drive continuous improvement and standardization of design practices.Required Skills & ExperienceDegree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical protection and control design for HV/MV projects.Strong knowledge of HV/EHV substation systems (11kV–400kV).Proficiency with protection coordination and modelling software (ETAP, DIgSILENT).Familiarity with SCADA, automation systems, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus) is a plus.High attention to detail with strong documentation and drawing production skills.Ability to manage multiple projects collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Scotland.
