Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to creating a workplace where individuals can thrive, grow, and make a real impact.The RoleAs an Electrical Design Engineer at TBS Engineering, you will be responsible for the electrical design of a wide range of standard and special-purpose machines for the lead-acid battery industry. You will take technical ownership of assigned projects, working closely with mechanical, software, manufacturing, and operations teams to deliver robust, compliant, and cost-effective electrical designs.This role offers the opportunity to take technical leadership, contribute to complex automation projects, and play a key role in delivering innovative engineering solutions to global customers.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the electrical design of standard and special-purpose machinery, including lead casting machines, plate feeders and stackers, battery assembly and test machines, and robotic automation cellsTake technical lead responsibility on assigned projects, as agreed with the Controls System Manager and Technical DirectorProduce detailed electrical designs in line with internal sales documentation and customer specifications (SSOW), including: – Electrical schematics – Control panel and cabinet layouts – Bills of materials (BOMs) – Termination lists – Electrical design and compliance documentationWork collaboratively with mechanical and software engineering teams to ensure designs meet functional, safety, and customer requirementsAgree electrical design approaches with senior engineers and participate in formal design reviewsCarry out and support risk assessments to ensure compliance with machine safety standards and CE requirementsSelect electrical components with consideration for standardisation, availability, obsolescence, cost, and design-for-manufacture principlesEnsure electrical designs meet agreed cost targets and delivery timescalesManage and implement design change requests efficiently and accuratelyMaintain accurate and up-to-date design files, drawings, and documentation in line with departmental proceduresHighlight technical and electrical risks to relevant managers and stakeholdersSupport manufacturing and operations teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and optimised for productionPrepare technical reports and customer documentation as requiredProvide on-site customer support, including presentations and fault-finding, when requiredReview and validate electrical designs and drawings produced by other engineers where appropriateFollow departmental design processes and company policies at all timesActively participate in continuous improvement initiatives and engineering projectsLive the values of TBS Engineering and Berkshire Hathaway in everything you doSkills, Knowledge & Experience3–5 years’ experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within the machinery or automation industryQualified to a minimum of HNC in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or equivalentStrong knowledge of machine safety standards, including BS EN ISO 13849-1 & 2 and BS EN 60204-1Experience in risk assessments and machine safety compliance (TÜV certification desirable)Proficient in electrical CAD systems; AutoCAD Electrical highly desirableStrong understanding of design for manufacture, standardisation, and cost controlProven ability to produce and interpret detailed electrical drawings and documentationAbility to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary engineering teamsStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailConfident, proactive approach with the ability to take technical ownershipGood written and verbal communication skillsStrong IT skills and ability to manage design data effectivelySelf-motivated, organised, and able to work to tight deadlinesWillingness to undertake ongoing professional developmentFull passport and willingness to travel internationally on occasionTraining will be provided on the company’s IFS (MRP) data control system.Culture & BenefitsAt TBS Engineering, we value our people and are committed to supporting their wellbeing and development.
