Date: Jul 10, 2026 Location: Ann Arbor, MI, US Company: Black & Veatch Family of Companies The Opportunity As an Electrical Distribution Project Engineer, you will have the opportunity to: Lead and deliver electrical distribution projects (up to 34.5kV) from design through execution Serve as a technical expert while guiding and mentoring junior engineers Own project success by managing scope, budget, schedule, and quality across multi‑discipline teams Partner directly with clients to develop solutions, present designs, and drive project outcomes Play a key role in shaping project strategy, improving processes, and supporting business growth The Team Black & Veatch is Ranked #4 Overall in Power by Engineering News‑Record (2025). Specialized capabilities include: Substations Renewables Integration HVDC/FACTS/STATCOM Data Center Integration BESS Integration Key Responsibilities Project Execution Prepare engineering deliverables for multiple projects Conduct research to develop equipment and material recommendations Manage data and perform complex engineering calculations Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines Lead larger production teams, coordinate multiple discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for a project Quality and Continuous Improvement Consistently and independently apply knowledge and comply with Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks Perform internal Quality Assurance technical reviews and ensure compliance with the quality program Provide guidance and direction to others on the same project and discipline Support continuous improvement and change management efforts Client Focus Interface directly with clients, vendors and subcontractors Identify key client interests and drivers for projects Communicate client concerns to project team members and develop solutions Provide support for business development or pursuit activities Manage project changes directly with the client under Project Manager supervision Engineering Production Prepare complex engineering deliverables Lead large multi‑disciplinary teams to meet project deliverables Provide technical leadership for Distribution Line projects Drive solutions to achieve project goals Management Responsibilities Review lower‑level engineering work or assignments Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work; lead smaller production teams; and serve as responsible charge for a project Manage work assignments and ensure quality from project team Actively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings Preferred Qualifications Experience managing engineering design services for overhead and underground distribution line projects for investor‑owned utilities in the United States Experience in design of overhead and underground distribution projects (4kV‑34.5kV) Good communication skills and interest in engaging with clients to grow relationships Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards including NESC and NEC Working knowledge of interdisciplinary project coordination: procurement, subcontract administration, permitting, real estate and land acquisition, and construction support Working knowledge of the proposal process and developing engineering estimates Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a recognized accredited program in the home country or in the country where the professional is practicing. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Certifications Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries. Work Environment/Physical Demands Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.
