Position Description: Maintenance Electrician Title: Maintenance Electrician Status: Full-Time, Non-exempt Company: Ascension Bulk Terminal Reports To: Maintenance Manager Supervises: N/A Ascension Bulk Terminal is a 230‑acre bulk commodities facility located at Mile 169 on the Mississippi River. Specializing in coal and petcoke, the terminal is also equipped to handle a variety of other bulk materials. In 2025, T. Parker Host (HOST) acquired the facility in 2025—formerly known as Impala Burnside Terminal—from Impala Terminals Burnside. This strategic addition expands HOST’s portfolio to three privately owned terminals and strengthens its growing network of assets and services. Core Principles: Our people are our greatest assets. Position Summary: Install, maintain, diagnose and repair equipment/instrumentation related to the unloading, loading, transfer and storage of cargo including conveying equipment, AC and DC motors, PLCs and IO modules, VFDs and DC Drives, associated wiring and power supplies on ship loaders, stacker/reclaimers, continuous barge unloaders, bucket cranes and various support equipment. Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Diagnose and repair equipment various equipment used to transfer cargo to/from barges and vessels by use of conveying equipment Work from blueprints, wiring schematics, manuals or verbal instructions Perform preventive maintenance on all terminal equipment Complete work in a safe and timely manner in compliance with company and regulatory requirements Safely operate various types of equipment related to transfer of cargo for testing purposes Perform routine inspections on assigned equipment and report findings in accordance with policy and procedures Accurately document information generated in support of operations to include but not limited to: receiving, shipping and storage of coal, petroleum coke, and bio‑mass. Maintenance inspections and safety related reports. Participate in and successfully complete required training and related testing Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns. Perform any other terminal functions as trained, requested and instructed by supervision. Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required: High School Graduate or equivalent required. 5 years of prior industrial electrical experience. Master Electrician-level knowledge/experience in troubleshooting at a component level of industrial electronic controls: VFDs/DC drives, PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and associated wiring. Working knowledge of Ohm’s Law. Experience with Allen Bradley controllers. Ability to attain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC). Support Operations through the installation, programming, start‑up and maintenance of electrical, automation and process control equipment. Responsible for installation, programming, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and automation equipment in order to improve plant system operation/uptime and reduce total operating costs. Support all types of facility systems including Allen Bradley PLCs, Toshiba VFDs and DC Drives, SEL MV control and monitoring, bulk cargo belts scales, wireless radios and related equipment, 120v‑4160v motor controls, and others. Experience with Medium Voltage motors and starters preferred. Successful applicant will work closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Information Technology Groups. Thoroughness and attention to detail are required as a significant amount of time may be spent working with complex PLC programs and advanced process control systems. Will be subject to overtime and call‑out work as needed. Other tasks may also be assigned to support Operations as necessary. Successful completion of background check. Ability to maintain regular, dependable attendance. Physical Requirements: Must meet “fit for duty” requirements upon job offer (pre‑employment physical and drug test). The employee must meet physical requirements including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work at protected heights up to 130 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
