Contract Principal Electronics EngineerBristol based (Four days a week onsite)Six months contract Inside IR35 - £60 p/hSC clearance is essential (UK Eyes only project)A leading Defence client are currently looking for an security cleared (SC) experienced Principal level Electronics Engineer for a Six-month contract opportunity to play a key technical role within a high-technology engineering environment delivering complex electronic systems for advanced sensor and communication applications.This is a broad, hands-on role where you’ll work across the full product lifecycle from early concept and design through to production support and fielded systems. You’ll be a technical authority within the electronics domain, influencing current and future designs while mentoring and developing others in the team.Key skills:Experience working across a product development lifecycle in a high-technology or regulated environmentHands-on expertise in high-speed digital hardware design, from schematic capture through component selection and documentationPractical experience with PCB prototyping, bring-up, test and fault-findingWorking knowledge of signal and power integrity, EMC and grounding best practiceExperience designing with FPGAs, microcontrollers, DDR and Flash memoryFamiliarity with modelling, simulation and structured design review processesAbility to communicate complex technical solutions clearly in written reportsA degree in Electronics Engineering or a closely related disciplineA collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with mechanical, systems and software teamsWhat you’ll be responsible forDesigning and developing mixed-technology electronic designs using microcontrollers, CPLDs and/or FPGAs interfacing with RF and analogue circuitryImplementing digital interfaces including Ethernet, CAN, I2C, SPI and RS422, plus high-speed optical and Ethernet linksDesigning power and control boards to demanding safety and environmental standards (including DO-160-level requirements)Supporting electronics through development, qualification, early-life production and field supportProducing clear technical documentation, design justifications and test reportsParticipating in design reviews and contributing to system-level engineering decisions
