Identification Job Title: Electronics Technician Department: Public Works & Transportation Division: Water Protection Salary: $23.94134/hourly, $49,798.00/Annual Closing: Until Filled Job Summary / Scope Maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots and repairs flow meters, PLC’s and associated electrical and electronic process control equipment and their respective components used in the operation and maintenance of the Water Protection Facility. Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs electrical circuits for lighting and equipment in plant operations. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintains, calibrates and troubleshoots all process flow meters, gas monitoring and flow recording equipment. Maintains and operates Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) – minor programming will be used. Removes and repairs/rebuilds electric motors/systems for various machines and equipment. Troubleshoots relay and control circuits for variable speed drives as well as soft‑start and starter systems. Troubleshoots complicated relay and control circuits for electrical systems that may incorporate the use of fluid or pneumatics. Locates and replaces defective wiring. Installs new equipment and orders parts for electrical equipment, lighting systems and switches. Assists other electricians as needed. Monitors and coordinates (through supervisory approval) the installation of new electrical systems with engineers, contractors, and manufacturers’ technicians. Designs and fabricates new circuits to replace defective component parts. Diagnoses electrical issues and electronic issues. Creates and updates all electrical prints as changes are made. Other Duties and Responsibilities Performs all other related duties as assigned. Employee Behavior and Conduct City employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner and shall exhibit and extend such professional conduct appropriate for the circumstances to those with whom they come into contact both internally and externally during the performance of their duties. Examples of professional conduct include, but are not limited to, being communicative, informative, fair, honest, and respectful. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 3-5 years of experience in a related field. Skills in electrical circuitry troubleshooting and repair. Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory. Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics or electrical blueprints. Ability to install all types of electrical equipment. Must be flexible and adaptable to various systems. Ability to analyze problems and follow through to correct. Proficient with hand and power tools. Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and operate Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s). Skills in digital electronics as well as industrial electronics. Ability to design control circuitry relay as well as schematics and line diagrams. Required to take call and respond to emergencies as needed. Valid driver’s license required. For employees hired into this position after January 1, 2017, the employee must have a Missouri “D” level Wastewater Treatment License or obtain within the six (6) month probationary period. Material and Equipment Directly Used All types of electrical diagnostic and relay tools and equipment such as multi‑meter, megger, oscilloscope, volt‑ohm meter amp meters, current tracer, phase indicator, converters, fittings, fuses, heaters, switches, breakers, miscellaneous conduit fittings, belt press controllers, piping, relays, counters, etc. All types of hand and power tools. Must be efficient in use of computers and computer programs. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Work is performed under a variety of conditions, ranging from indoor work with a controlled environment to outside tasks performed under a variety of extreme conditions such as cold, heat, windy and wet. Hazardous work potential, exposure to high voltage electrical current. Occasionally work in confined spaces and high areas. Frequently lifts objects or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. Occasional lifting of 70 pounds and up to 100+ with assistance. Frequent work in difficult positions. Frequent standing, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing and keeling. Exposure to dust, fumes; frequent exposure to varying intensities of noise. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree in electricity/electronics or related field preferred. Certified graduate of Industrial Electronics Course. All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment. Any job offer made by the City is contingent upon the applicant passing the drug screening and background check.
