Position Summary

The Electronic Technician Specialist (PLC Specialist) at TydenBrooks is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading electronic control systems across manufacturing operations. This role focuses heavily on PLC programming, automation equipment, sensors, control panels, and communication networks. The specialist ensures all automated production equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

PLC & Automation Support (Primary Function)
  • Program, troubleshoot, diagnose, and modify PLCs.
  • Maintain, upgrade, and optimize existing PLC code and HMI interfaces to improve performance and reduce downtime.
  • Perform backup, documentation, and version control of PLC programs.
  • Integrate new automation equipment into existing PLC networks.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new digital or automated systems.
Electrical & Electronic Systems
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical components such as power supplies, motors, sensors, relays, and VFDs.
  • Diagnose and repair issues related to control wiring, communication cables, and network components (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, DeviceNet).
  • Maintain accurate wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on electrical and automation systems to minimize breakdowns.
Equipment Performance & Reliability
  • Analyze downtime data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Recommend and support continuous improvement projects related to automation, controls, and system reliability.
  • Assist Engineering in designing upgrades or modifications to support plant efficiency or safety initiatives.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA, and internal safety policies.
  • Maintain equipment lockout/tagout standards and participate in safety audits.
  • Support the installation of machine guarding, emergency stops, and other safety-related electronic systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to resolve automation issues.
  • Provide training and support for maintenance technicians on controls, troubleshooting, and best practices.
  • Assist operations with technical troubleshooting during production shifts as needed.
QualificationsRequired
  • Technical degree or certification in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or related field
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting, programming, or automation repairs
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and electrical circuits
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and wiring diagrams
  • Working knowledge of multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and other diagnostic tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision
Preferred
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, FactoryTalk, or Siemens systems
  • Experience in manufacturing environments (injection molding, metal assembly, or related industries)
  • Familiarity with industrial networking and communication protocols
  • Knowledge of robotics, motion control, or vision systems
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, heat, and moving machinery
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to work on ladders, in control panels, or in tight spaces
  • Occasional weekend or on-call support may be required
