Electronics Engineer Apply
About UsWastewater Fuels Ltd is a UK-based clean technology company pioneering next-generation wastewater treatment and renewable energy systems. Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Coventry, West Midlands, we develop bio-electrochemical systems (BES) that convert wastewater into treated water and renewable fuels.Driven by a mission to revolutionise wastewater treatment through low-energy, sustainable technologies, we aim to recover energy and protect natural resources. Our vision is to create a world where every drop of wastewater contributes to a circular, decarbonised economy — transforming what was once waste into a valuable source of clean energy and environmental resilience. The RoleWe are seeking a Electronics Engineer to join our growing engineering team, developing cost-effective and intelligent systems that transform how we control, monitor and optimise our bio-electrochemical systems. This role involves mechanical design, electronics, and control systems, driving innovation in sustainable, automated technology. You will design, prototype, and implement smart electromechanical and control systems from lab-scale rigs to full-scale operational equipment working closely with process, electrical, and software engineers to deliver efficient, reliable, and data-driven systems.Key responsibilities include: Design and develop electromechanical and electronic systems, including sensors, actuators, and control components.Work with microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and embedded systems to create custom automation solutions.Build and test IoT-enabled devices that integrate seamlessly with larger energy and treatment systems.Design and verify electronic circuits using lab tools (oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.) and simulation software (e.g. LTspice).Develop and optimise automation and control algorithms for process efficiency and reliability.Collaborate on mechanical prototyping using 3D printing and rapid fabrication tools.Support installation, commissioning, and ongoing performance improvement of deployed systems.Maintain thorough technical documentation, schematics, and test reports.Contribute to the development of power systems, including power distribution, energy management, and scalability for larger systems.Ensure all designs meet safety standards and engineering best practices.Desired Skills and QualificationsDegree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Control Engineering (or a related field).Strong understanding of embedded systems, sensors, and control theory.Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink).Experience with PLC programming, Python, or C/C++ for automation and control.Familiarity with IoT technologies and system integration.A creative, hands-on, and experimental mindset, with strong problem-solving skills.Passion for sustainability, innovation, and clean technology.ParticularsRole Reports To: Lead Product ManagerAnnual Remuneration: £30 - 40k (depending on experience)Holiday Allowance: 25 days + bank holidays + Christmas shutdownTypical Working Hours: 37.5 hours per weekContract Length: 1-year fixed-term contract, with potential for a permanent role subject to performance.Permissions: Right to live and work in the UK, basic security checks may be requiredCommencement: March 2026
