JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Performs basic product design, testing and/or analysis work for a defined portion of a project.
  • Operates in a team environment, providing input to design solutions and participating in design reviews.
  • Develops recommendations within established guidelines; work and decisions are reviewed by supervisors before implementation.
Duties:
  • Applies existing applications to routine problems.
  • Produces and/or evaluates possible design solutions to improve cost, quality and performance based on specialized knowledge of engineering applications.
  • This may include possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management and/or supplier personnel.
  • Analyses assignments and determines engineering specifications which must be fulfilled for routine problems or projects.
  • Compiles and furnishes necessary information (engineering decisions and reports of pertinent design analyses data) to document the design solution required for building of prototypes and adoption of the design with possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management and/or supplier personnel.
  • Learns and applies company engineering policies and practices; learns company products.
  • Executes test or analysis plan for product verification and validation.
  • At client, Power Systems (JDPS) as an Engine Development Engineer, you will have shared management of a performance and emissions dyno.
In addition, you will:
  • Define detailed engine test plans and schedule dyno test work.
  • Write work orders and communicate needs to test cell operators.
  • Prepare engines for testing and write assembly and instrumentation work orders.
  • Analyse test results, present results and lead discussions.
  • Calibrate base engine software features and help to develop new software features.
  • Provide technical guidance to other groups (field performance, calibration, applications, etc.
    ).
  • Contribute to engine and aftertreatment hardware development.
What It Takes
  • We need an excellent communicator who thrives on solving problems in a team environment.
Ideally, you will have a
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
In addition we require:
  • 2 + years' experience in engine engineering.
  • A basic understanding of diesel engine performance and emissions.
  • 6 months + experience in engine or component development testing.
Desired Skills:
  • One or more years' experience with engine development or engine control system development or engine component/subsystem development
  • Proficiency in the use of engine test lab equipment, data acquisition, and data analysis tools
  • Knowledge of diesel engine emissions control technologies and emissions regulations
  • Demonstrated skills in the clear communication of technical data and project information
Strong Candidate:
  • Experience in performance and emissions development of heavy-duty diesel engines, including the use of controller development tools
  • Experience using Design of Experiment methodologies, modeling, and optimization techniques
  • User experience with GT-Power
  • User experience with National Instruments Diadem analysis software
  • User experience with Matlab and associated toolboxes (MBC, CAGE, Simulink)
Education (Minimum):
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Agricultural or Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
Strong Candidate:
  • Master's degree in engineering or additional classes in thermodynamics, fluids, heat transfer, combustion, engine performance, theory or design desired
