Job Description

Why Join Dynon?

At Dynon, you’ll help define the future of general aviation. We design and build complete avionics systems in-house—from displays and autopilots to radios and navigators. You’ll collaborate with passionate engineers, contribute to world-class products, and make a real impact in the cockpit.

Job Summary

Dynon Avionics, a leader in innovative avionics for experimental and light sport aircraft, is seeking a highly motivated Configuration Management Engineer to lead and maintain structured control over hardware, software, and documentation configurations across the product lifecycle. This role is pivotal in supporting traceability, revision control, regulatory compliance, and efficient cross-functional development processes.

The CM Engineer will work across disciplines—engineering, manufacturing, quality, and product management—to ensure design integrity and consistent configuration of our avionics systems from development through production and post-release support.

Key Responsibilities

1. Configuration Identification & Planning

  • Develop and maintain configuration management plans, item naming conventions, and baseline definitions.
  • Define and enforce structured product hierarchies, part numbering schemes, and version control strategies for hardware and software.
  • Collaborate with design teams to establish initial baselines for new products and software releases.

2. Change Control & Governance

  • Administer Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Change Orders (ECOs), and deviation approvals.
  • Schedule, facilitate, and document Change Control Board (CCB) meetings.
  • Track implementation of changes from proposal through final release across software, hardware, and documentation.

3. Configuration Status Accounting

  • Maintain traceability and audit trails for configuration items (CIs), revisions, and change history.
  • Monitor and report on the status of baselines, open changes, and downstream impact across projects.
  • Ensure fielded systems are appropriately documented and aligned with released configurations.

4. Configuration Verification & Audits

  • Support or lead Functional and Physical Configuration Audits (FCA/PCA) prior to certification or product release.
  • Verify the completeness and consistency of documentation, BOMs, firmware, and test artifacts.
  • Work with Quality and Regulatory teams to ensure compliance with internal and FAA requirements (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254).

5. Tool & Data Management

  • Administer and optimize Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and PDM systems.
  • Interface with software version control systems (e.g., Git) and ensure alignment between software and hardware configuration baselines.
  • Ensure integration between PLM, ERP, and CAD toolchains to minimize manual entry and improve change visibility.

6. Cross-Functional Support

  • Work closely with engineering, QA, operations, and supply chain to ensure clean handoffs from design to production.
  • Coordinate configuration activities that support FAA certification, quality audits, and field support.
  • Assist in improving internal processes and documentation related to ISO 9001 and AS9100 practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2–5 years of experience in configuration management, preferably in aerospace, avionics, or medical device industries.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/EIA-649, MIL-HDBK-61A, or similar CM standards.
  • Proficiency with PLM systems, MS Office Suite, and structured documentation practices.
  • Working knowledge of CAD, Git, or other version control systems.
  • Experience supporting FAA certification processes, including DO-178C/DO-254.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 compliance environments.
  • Certification in CMMI, PMP, or Six Sigma is a plus.
  • Experience with software release management, CI/CD pipelines, or embedded system configuration control.

Soft Skills

  • High attention to detail, organizational rigor, and systematic thinking.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Proactive mindset and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

We offer:

  • · 95% employer-paid medical/dental/vision/life insurance coverage for employees.
  • · 401(k) with 4% employer match.
  • · 3 weeks PTO in the first year.
  • · 10 paid holidays.
  • · Partial reimbursement for tuition and flight training.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment, where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. We strictly prohibit discrimination against any candidate based on race, ethnicity, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious creed, national origin, disability, veteran status, age, marital status, pregnancy, genetic information, or other legally protected status. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply and will be evaluated based on their qualifications, skills, and experience.
