Summary
The Engineering Manager is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all engineering operations within our wood manufacturing environment. This role leads a team of 15+ engineers and drives engineering standards, process efficiency, and cross-functional alignment to support operational success. The ideal candidate combines strong leadership and manufacturing experience with a hands-on understanding of production needs, continuous improvement, and practical engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
-Oversee creation and maintenance of Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, cut lists, drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
-Develop and implement engineering strategies that align with company goals and manufacturing capabilities.
-Lead problem-solving initiatives to eliminate production bottlenecks and improve throughput and accuracy.
-Drive operational efficiency by partnering closely with Production, Operations, Quality, and Scheduling.
-Establish and enforce quality and engineering standards to reduce rework and improve output.
-Improve engineering workflows, documentation standards, and process consistency.
-Provide leadership, direction, and accountability for the engineering team.
-Support engineering for custom and high-volume manufacturing projects.
Requirements
-Problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
-Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on support.
-Expert level leadership, organization, and communication skills.
-Experience with BOMs, routings, and manufacturing documentation.
-Proficient in manufacturing systems (ERP/MRP); CAD familiarity a BIG Plus.
-Proven experience leading engineering teams in a custom woodworking mfg production environment.
-Either a background in a hands-on custom building background or having extensive "constructability" knowledge.
-Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production flow, lean methodologies, and operational efficiency.
-Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred; equivalent manufacturing experience will be considered.
-Minimum 7 10 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, preferably wood products, millwork, cabinetry, or related industries.
