The Tech III General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, furniture assembly/disassembly, furniture moving/storing, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Supporting the Material and Manufacturing Directorate laboratories which provide leading edge futuristic research in support of the war fighter. Modern materials analysis capabilities, laser, and coatings research are a few of many core engineering studies that are ongoing. Paralleling the dynamics of research is the equipment supporting these studies. Examples of some specialized equipment would include lasers, environment chambers, vacuum chambers, microscopes, network servers. Work involves a variety of the following duties: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery. Perform emergency service and troubleshooting of users vacuum systems (Pump performance evaluation, pump repair, vacuum checks, instrument verification, leak location and correction of faulty mechanical connections, plumbing). Performs scheduled and preventive maintenance on vacuum pumps according to regulations set in COTS manuals or Adjusted PMI Memorandum for Record (oil, filter, changes and scheduled cleaning). Provides periodic maintenance for the back shops and grounds equipment according to COTS manuals and updates AFTO Forms 244. This includes oil changes, belt and wear part changes, adjustments and replacement of broke or damaged parts Assists and oversees the required maintenance in the laboratories and offices in the complex. This includes a multitude of skill sets. Provides security and delivery at shipping and receiving to cover core hours and loads and unloads trucks with the fork lift. Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment. Disassembly of plumbing to ensure no fluid remains and removal of parts that would be an obstacle to moving safely, transportation (fork truck) and documentation.
