This position will maintain appropriate project records/reports. Perform necessary surveying and inspection calculations. Also requires familiarization with reading plans, contract specifications and applicable standards. Perform a variety of office assignments such as checking pay records, haul tickets, force account, contractor’s payroll, material received and estimate with use of calculator and computer. May serve as a lead project inspector for larger roadway and larger structure projects, conducting independent inspections on various construction operations using plans, contracts, standards, specifications, etc. and a variety of material testing devices to ensure compliance with project requirements. Supervises and trains lower-level employees. Candidate will be subject to hazards on highway construction sites. Additional Expectations: Evaluate and apply engineering judgement to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures. Ability to perform independent complex inspections, maintain detailed records and perform sampling and testing in accordance with established guidelines. Ability to operate survey equipment, computer terminals and drafting instruments and considerable knowledge of mathematical functions. Skills in uses of office equipment; calculators and computers. Ability to read, interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications and inspection procedures, good communicative ability, and supervisory ability. Train, coordinate and supervise subordinate employees. Communicate, establish, and work in an outside environment including exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, lifting heavy objects and traversing rough terrain in evaluation highway construction. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required. Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Must be able to legally drive a state vehicle. \*\*Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.\*\*.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences**## Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC11 - $45,431 - $ 79,504## ## **Management prefers applicants with the following:*** ## Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.* ## Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups.* ## Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.* ## Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments* ## Computer experience including office software and drafting software.**Minimum Education and Experience**Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
