Summary of Position The City of Kyle is looking for a skilled Civil 3D Designer to support a variety of public infrastructure projects. This role uses AutoCAD Civil 3D to create civil engineering drawings, maps, exhibits, and plan sets for roadway, drainage, water, wastewater, and site-development projects. Responsibilities include preparing and updating design documents, completing markups, producing figures, and supporting engineers through all stages of plan development—from conceptual layouts to final construction drawings. Prepare complete construction plan sets that includes plan‑and‑profile sheets for roadway, drainage, water, wastewater, and site‑development projects. Develop exhibits, maps, figures, and redlined revisions to support engineers and project managers throughout all stages of design. Maintain accurate, well‑organized Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) files by applying City CAD standards, proper layer management, naming conventions, and file‑structure requirements. Interpret survey data, plats, as‑builts, GIS layers, and field information to create and update base files and design documents. Collaborate closely with engineers, inspectors, consultants, and project managers to ensure design accuracy and project coordination. Assist with field verification, design adjustments, markups, and other technical drafting needs as part of ongoing project development. Produce high‑quality technical deliverables by following established CAD standards for drawing setup, scaling, labeling, dimensioning, plotting, and plan production. Apply revisions to existing drawings, including design updates, corrections, and additions based on engineering direction. Work effectively with minimal supervision while supporting team‑based design workflows. Maintain organized project documentation digital files for internal reviews, external coordination, and long‑term record keeping, and project archives consistent with department standard. Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of civil engineering drafting principles, including the creation of alignments, profiles, surfaces, grading plans, and utility networks in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Knowledge of surveying concepts, plats, as‑builts, GIS data, and other technical documents needed to develop accurate base files. Knowledge of CAD standards, file‑management practices, and drawing formatting requirements used in municipal infrastructure design. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Bluebean, and Adobe Professional, with the ability to use these tools effectively for project documentation and review. Skill in preparing professional, well‑organized plan sets, exhibits, and technical figures that comply with City and engineering standards. Skill in identifying drafting inconsistencies, conducting quality checks, and resolving technical issues within design files. Skill in producing plan sets for civil infrastructure projects, including streets, drainage, utilities, and site development. Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and perform tasks independently while maintaining high accuracy. Ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Ability to adapt to changes in project requirements, design standards, and evolving software tools. Minimum Qualifications Must have, or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire, a valid Texas Driver’s License and be eligible for coverage under the City of Kyle’s vehicle insurance provider. Associate’s Degree in Computer‑Aided Drafting (CAD), Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Design, Construction Technology, or related field. At least two years of experience in engineering drafting, CAD design, civil design support, or infrastructure planning. Preferred Qualifications AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, or engineering design software. Physical Demands & Working Conditions This position primarily operates in a standard office environment, using computers, drafting software, and standard office equipment. Occasional fieldwork may be required to support design verification or project observations. The role may involve sitting or standing for extended periods, performing repetitive hand and arm motions associated with computer‑based drafting and document preparation. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds as needed for transporting equipment or materials. The employee must have the visual ability to perform tasks requiring close vision, distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
