Engineering Technician

JOB TITLE:

Engineering Technician

JOB TYPE:

Full-time

JOB LOCATION:

Oakland Capellen United States

No

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Company Overview

Beam is on a mission to revolutionize and decarbonize how we heat people. We are well aware of the emissions problem of keeping people comfortable energy use from buildings contributes to 27% of global CO2 emissions, the majority of which is due to on-site use of fossil fuels. However, we seldom talk about catering to the distinct and differentiated individual needs of comfort of different people.

We are building a smart, high-efficiency, revolutionary heating system that flips the orthodoxy of one-size-fits-all solutions that heat entire spaces as a way to heat people. Personal comfort is, in fact, personal and unique to individuals. We have developed a novel way to deliver individualized heat to people through an elegant hardware-software platform that is truly 10x better than what is on the market today.

If you are mission-driven, product-obsessed, and keen on building something that revolutionizes the customer experience while delivering benefits to the planet and future generations, you are a natural fit for the Beam Team. Our founders have experiences across engineering, design, and public policy, at Tesla, Zoox, Deloitte and others. We recently closed our first institutional capital round, where we brought on some of the best climate tech investors in the world.

Role Overview

As an Engineering Technician at Beam, you will be a core part of the engineering and manufacturing team, helping us get ready to launch our first concept. We are looking for a passionate, curious, and growth-oriented person who is excited about prototyping, assembly, and seeing ideas come to life. This person must thrive in ambiguity, be excited to wear many hats, and do what is needed to build and launch a revolutionary product. You will work directly with one of our founders who leads product and engineering.

Qualifications

  • Passion to learn new and innovative prototyping and early stage startup activities
  • Experience with resin and filament based 3D printers, including slicing and post-processing
  • Experience with multi-step chemical processes (mold making, ceramics, post-processing parts, etc.)
  • Experience with electrical harnesses and assemblies
  • Experience with purchasing from engineering procurement sites (Amazon, McMaster Carr, Digikey) and managing basic inventory and process documentation
  • Experience working with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ability to contribute to updates and creation of new SOPs
  • Proficiency with software productivity tools such as Slack, Confluence, and Google Workspace
  • Strong mission alignment around climate and electrification
  • Strong bonuses
  • Experience working as a technician at other early and mid-stage start-ups

Responsibilities

  • Prototyping: Manage 3D printers and fabrication of custom components using standard shop tools for basic machining and forming operations
  • Assembly: assemble small-scale and full-sized assembly for prototype and low-volume production, in addition to assembling electrical harnesses and other electrical assemblies
  • Test, assembly and development fixtures design and development
  • Workshop and equipment management: purchase, receive, and organize incoming materials; set up organization systems for the machine shop (5S, servicing logs, low-stock part management, etc.); clean, maintain, and service shop equipment
  • Assist with field deployments, ranging from demos and pilots to product deployment
  • Setting a high bar for excellence, and creating an inclusive environment

This is an opportunity to join a passionate, driven, and humble team of people who truly care about the impact of their work. Weve been heating entire spaces as a way to heat people for as long as we remember. We can no longer afford to be wasteful while neglecting the fundamental comfort needs of people.
