Engineering Technician Department: Operations FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Reports To: Engineering Manager Salary: $45.85 per hour Date Reviewed: April 16, 2026 Job Statement To be responsible for investigating, surveying, and designing electric distribution and transmission lines in compliance with approved construction specifications through job completion. Essential Functions Schedules and keeps appointments with members for new construction, upgrading of facilities, and relocation or removal of existing facilities. Designs and stake locations for the installation of new facilities, system improvements, and retirements. Creates estimates and contracts as needed for new construction. Utilizes technology to create staking sheets, material sheets, and other relevant forms for construction projects. Reviews completed jobs and makes corrections in necessary software. Collects relevant GPS and phasing data for use in the mapping. Serves as engineer designated to answer calls on specified calls. Assists as needed in public relations and information programs undertaken by the cooperative. Job Specifications Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment. Ability to operate forklift. Must be familiar with RUS construction units and standards within 6 months. Working knowledge of electronic surveying and GPS tools. Working knowledge of consumer-owned utility relationships and standards as required by applicable state and federal agencies. Working knowledge of principles of line construction. Ability to understand principles of line construction. Routine travel within the Cooperative services area, as well as some travel for training. Work may require evening and weekend work. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Generously accepted office working conditions and outside weather conditions. Medium work requiring exertion up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force more frequently. Lifting and carrying 10 to 50 pounds occasionally. Requires finger dexterity, good vision and hearing. Required to speak English clearly. On a daily basis, requires attention to detail; the ability to read, write, and perform basic math. Travel by company vehicle is required. Occasional travel by commercial means may be required. Office equipment used frequently includes personal computers, related software, copier, printers, and fax machines. Exposure to varying temperature conditions including cold below 32 degrees and heat above 100 degrees. Exposure to dust and dirt. Hazards include electrical and radiant energy. Ability to walk on uneven terrain, frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, sitting, and carrying up to 25 pounds. Possible exposure to domesticated and wild animals.
