Job Summary:

The Laboratory of Translational Psychiatry in the Departmentof Psychiatry, Division of Neuroscience, is seeking an entry-level research professional to join their growing team of researchers usingmouse models and cutting-edge techniques to probe the biological mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric disorders and driving thetransmission of intergenerational stress. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates looking to expand their laboratory experience!

Research specialists are paramount to our lab operations. Entry-level professionals provide support services facilitating research,managing transgenic mouse colonies, and assisting with data collection, sample processing, experiment procedures and molecular assays.Examples of techniques used in the lab include cell culture, Western blot, DNA/RNA isolation, qPCR/PCR, electrophysiology, immunohistologyand microscopy, mouse dissection, and animal (mouse) behavior assessments and manipulation.

Qualified applicants should possess abachelor's in biology, neuroscience, psychology, or related field, and be familiar with working in a research lab. Research professionalsmust be comfortable working with rodents in a research setting and ideally have experience with animal research models.

KeyResponsibilities:

  • Maintain transgenic mouse breeding colonies (mating, tagging, genotyping/DNAextraction, weaning, euthanizing) and coordinate with research fellows to determine cohort size based on experimental needs and geneticinheritance.

  • Keep up-to-date and accurate records of assigned mice using an electronic database. Document all breedinghistory and any interventions/treatments.

  • Ensure health and animal wellbeing by adhering to high ethical standards andpractices, conducting routine health checks, reporting abnormal behaviors or signs of distress, seeking veterinary or husbandry careassistance, and taking corrective action.

  • May provide specialized animal care services, such as diet, water, or druginjections, related to research studies.

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholderswith laboratory and research functions.

  • Participate in supervised research experiments, including assisting with mousesurgery, dissections, tissue collection and processing, behavior studies, molecular procedures, and data analysis.

  • Utilize avariety of wet bench laboratory techniques, developing protocol recommendations and troubleshooting.
