Job Description

About the Company

We are a global manufacturing organization with a strong foundation in materials science and specialty chemical innovation. Our products support a wide range of industries, including consumer goods, packaging, healthcare, and industrial applications.

The organization is known for its commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence, with a long-standing reputation for technical innovation and continuous improvement. The company operates multiple business units and is currently investing heavily in the growth of its specialty chemicals division, creating strong opportunities for career advancement and long-term development.

This particular site is a small, well-run manufacturing facility (~50 employees) with a strong safety record and established environmental compliance systems already in place. The plant produces polymer-based chemical products used in downstream manufacturing (e.g., packaging materials) and operates within a regulated, process safety–driven environment.

The culture is collaborative and performance-driven, with a focus on accountability, hands-on leadership, and practical problem-solving.

About the Role

We are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead all site-level EHS functions at a chemical manufacturing facility. This is a “working manager” role within a lean team structure, offering high visibility and direct impact on plant operations.

The EHS Manager will be responsible for driving safety performance, maintaining environmental compliance, and leading process safety initiatives, while also supporting day-to-day plant activities. This role reports directly to site leadership and partners closely with both operations and corporate EHS teams.

This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who is either:

  • An established EHS leader who enjoys a hands-on environment, or
  • A high-potential EHS professional ready to step into their first management role

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute all site EHS programs, including safety, environmental, and process safety initiatives
  • Drive a proactive safety culture through coaching, engagement, and accountability at all levels of the organization
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, and related standards), including permitting, reporting, and recordkeeping
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, audits, and inspections
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
  • Oversee and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems, including:
  • Management of Change (MOC)
  • Process Hazard Analyses (PHA/HAZOP)
  • Risk assessments and action tracking
  • Support environmental programs (air, waste, water) and ensure continuity during absences within a small team structure
  • Manage EHS training programs, emergency preparedness, and response planning
  • Track and analyze leading and lagging indicators to drive continuous improvement

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety, Environmental Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience with Process Safety Management (PSM)

Preferred:

  • Experience in chemical or specialty chemical manufacturing
  • Exposure to PHA/HAZOP, MOC, and risk assessment processes
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance (Title V, RCRA, etc.)
  • Professional certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM) are a plus
  • Experience in smaller plant environments or “working manager” roles
