JOB DESCRIPTION:

Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU) is seeking an accomplished, self-driven senior-level historian or environmental scientist with at least fifteen (15) years of professional experience. FHU has established our environmental practice around pragmatic solutions to our clients’ needs and are looking for a seasoned professional that will fit with our company culture. Key Responsibilities:

  • Will be looked to as a senior technical resource in your field of expertise, which must generally pertain to architectural history and National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 106 compliance.
  • Ability to complete complicated cultural resource projects without supervision and/or assistance from others
  • Experience with applying National Register criteria to a variety of cultural resources including above-ground resources
  • Ability to conduct complex analysis/curation of cultural resources
  • Experience preparing documents in support of consultation and coordination with State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) and Native American tribes.
  • Participates in business development activities and takes opportunities to market to internal and external clients.
  • Participates in the planning, estimation, and preparations of proposals, as well as other competitive project pursuit elements, such as client interviews.
  • Works with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as resource agencies primarily in support of transportation projects.
  • Works on and manages a range of projects, including small to mid-sized transportation projects, historic resource tasks, and/or larger multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Responsible for data collection, technical analyses, and written documentation.
  • Will perform duties as a senior project manager, and senior technical reviewer on complex, multidisciplinary projects across the region.
  • Provides mentoring and project-related management of staff.
  • Responsible for job specific quality system tasks, as defined in the FHU quality manual.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Highly desirable areas of expertise include:

The ideal candidate will have significant experience with federal agencies and departments of transportation, and local municipalities, and project experience in one or more of the following is preferred:

  • NHPA Section 106 and Section 4(f) compliance with specific experience interacting with State Historic Preservation Officers (SHPO) and/or consulting parties.
  • NEPA studies, documentation, and reviews; environmental studies and permitting for the transportation industry.
  • Must be comfortable working and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team that may include ecologists, geologists, design engineers, traffic engineers, right of way agents, surveyors, environmental scientists, and planners, among others.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Secretary of the Interior Qualified architectural historian:
  • Bachelor’s degree in architectural history art history, historic preservation, or closely related field with coursework in American architectural history from an accredited four-year college or university is required. A Master’s Degree is desirable.
  • Fifteen or more years of experience in historic survey and NHPA Section 106 compliance

The pay for this position has a range of $100,000 - $125,000 annually. The actual offer will carefully consider a range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience.
