The Position

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This position will be responsible for assessment, inspection, and enforcement of State of Nevada and Federal regulations and Agreements at U.S. Department of Energy sites in the State of Nevada. Candidates will be responsible for review and commenting on remediation, waste and monitoring documentation. Candidates will additionally be involved in writing and enforcing hazardous waste, solid waste, mixed waste, water pollution control and safe drinking water related permits as required per State of Nevada and Federal regulations for the Nevada National Security Site. This position must obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, for which he/she will be required to undergo a comprehensive U.S. Department of Energy background investigation and participate in a State of Nevada mandatory medical monitoring program. To Qualify

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical environmental experience which involved assisting in environmental program research and planning; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Some positions may require a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
