Title: Environmental Scientist / Specialist
Duration: 12 Months
Location Prefer Lemont, IL (Open to Remote, travel expense will be paid)
This position requires U.S. Citizens only to meet the DoD requirements.
Levels: Entry through Mid-Level (encompassing Associate 1-4 and Scientist 5-7)
Overall Purpose: To provide both technical support and analytical contributions to environmental projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The role balances hands-on field and data tasks with technical writing and analysis, with responsibilities shifting based on experience level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field sampling, site inspections, and ecological surveys.
- Perform data entry, management, validation, and preliminary analysis.
- Operate and maintain specialized environmental monitoring instrumentation.
- Research and summarize regulatory requirements and scientific literature.
- Assist in the preparation of environmental documents (EAs, EISs), contributing data, writing technical sections, and supporting document production.
- Perform impact assessment analysis for specific resources (e.g., air, water, ecology) under guidance.
- Support client and agency coordination through document preparation and meeting support.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Engineering, Geology, or a related scientific field.
- Experience: 0-6 years of relevant experience. Level will be determined based on candidate's mix of support and analytical skills.
- Skills:
- Ability to perform rigorous fieldwork and data collection.
- Competence with data management software (e.g., MS Excel, databases).
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Basic understanding of NEPA processes and environmental regulations.
- Familiarity with one or more discipline areas (e.g., hydrology, ecology, air quality) is a plus.
- GIS skills are highly desirable.
