The role of the Environmental Test Supervisor is to lead the team of environmental technicians and engineers in all work efforts related to testing hardware products through simulated harsh environments of space, aerospace, industrial, and military environments. this is a working management position which requires hands-on domain technical knowledge and ability to execute all testing within the laboratory.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as technical subject matter expert for environmental test processes and equipment and maintain responsibility over test execution for equipment under test (EUT) hardware.
  • Lead a team of test engineers, specialists, and technicians to test various hardware to military, industrial and commercial test standards.
  • Create, maintain and communicate detailed schedules, ensuring your team and other stakeholders are aware of milestones and deadlines.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of the environmental test lab and maintain the lab’s operational readiness to support production environmental stress screening and environmental testing.
  • Generate hardware test procedures and plans to meet project requirements.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for environmental test technicians.
  • Perform thermal surveys and vibration surveys.
  • Support the test and troubleshooting of complex electronic systems and sub-assemblies, working directly with hardware and design engineering personnel as required.
  • Feedback lessons learned to the design teams for continuous improvement.
  • Support test fixture design including test harnesses.
  • Generate environmental test reports & maintain test records within data repository.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and processes maintaining compliance with AS9100/iso9001, Ansi z540-1, ISO 17025 standards. Responsible for achieving and maintaining ISO/IEC test laboratory accreditation.

In this role you will be responsible for leading a team in the mechanical verification and test of hardware products. This role has personal management responsibilities and provides a clear pathway to become the Engineering Manager for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent technical degree.
  • 5+ years of working experience in testing electronics, electro-mechanical assemblies, or integrated systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a lab and/or production facilities, equipment, and operations.
  • Experience in Thermal, Thermal vacuum, Vibration, Shock, HALT/HASS, or EMC testing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience designing rugged embedded computers or avionics from a mechanical perspective, including understanding of circuit board interconnects.
  • Experience with designing and building electrical harnesses and connectors.
  • Experience with electronics thermal and/or vibration analysis and related software such as Ansys, Flotherm, SolidWorks, etc.
  • General familiarity with overall integration of rugged embedded computer systems.
  • Experience with space flight components and spacecraft environmental testing.
  • In-depth knowledge of standards such as EN-60529, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810 AND RTCA DO-160.
  • Experience with defense and aerospace industry practices, and programmatic skills interfacing directly with customers.
