Job Summary:

The ER Tech provides direct patient care functions under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs clerical, communication, and other related duties to facilitate the efficient functioning of the Emergency Department services. The ER Tech assists patients in their routine activities of daily living, collects patient data and specimens, and assists the patient care team by performing designated patient care procedures.

Responsibilities:

- Assists patients in routine activities of daily living, including range of motion, ambulation, positioning, skin care, linen changes, feeding, hygiene, toileting, and incontinent care.
- Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and processes specimens as needed.
- Obtains and records health, weights, vital signs, including pulse oximetry, pain assessment, and I&O.
- Communicates patient status and reports changes in patient condition to licensed professionals.
- Performs incentive spirometry and transports patients.
- Prepares patients for diagnostic tests and assists rehab therapists.
- Performs pulse oximetry/oxygen setup in oxygen therapy.
- Prepares rooms, provides post-mortem care, and prepares for admission and discharge.
- Assists nurses in emergency situations.
- Maintains and cleans equipment.
- Performs oral and nasopharyngeal suctioning.
- Performs blood sugar finger sticks.
- Removes IV catheters per licensed nurse instruction.
- Performs EKGs (department-specific responsibility).
- Answers unit phones and directs calls accordingly.
- Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems and documents patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Performs selected patient registration activities.
- Coordinates equipment/supply needs and notifies the appropriate department of equipment malfunction.
- Performs other related clerical and technical duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications:

- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- CNA license or National EMT certification
- AHA BLS Provider CPR certification
- 1 year of ER experience
Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- Familiarity with rural hospital ER settings and caring for all patient populations
Special Considerations:

- Must be able to work every other weekend.
- Position may float between units.
Scheduling:
- 1.2 FTE (48 hours/week)
- 6 x 8-hour shifts
- Shifts are from 1500-2330
