Estate Administration Paralegal
A well-established and growing law firm located in Garden City, NY is seeking an experienced Estate Administration Paralegal to support attorneys and clients in a busy trusts and estates practice. This role offers extensive hands-on exposure to estate planning, estate administration, and probate matters, along with meaningful client interaction throughout the process.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, solutions-focused, and comfortable handling sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion. This position is well-suited for a paralegal who takes ownership of their work, values accuracy, and enjoys being an integral part of a collaborative legal team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare probate petitions and related ancillary documents
- Assist with the collection, retitling, sale, and transfer of estate and trust assets
- Prepare beneficiary designation forms for life insurance, retirement benefits, and annuity contracts
- Draft correspondence to beneficiaries and creditors
- Assist in the preparation of federal and state estate tax returns
- Prepare fiduciary accountings
- Prepare Receipts and Releases in connection with estate or trust distributions and terminations
- Maintain ongoing communication with clients and third parties to ensure timely progress of matters
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 1 2 years of experience in a law firm environment
- Prior experience with estate administration, trusts, probate, or estate planning preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and HotDocs
- Familiarity with estate tax and fiduciary accounting software (OneSource preferred)
