JOB DESCRIPTION:

Summary:

Alfred Street Baptist Church is seeking a dedicated and skilled Event Cook to join our team. The Event Cook will play a vital role in overseeing the coordination and maintenance of all kitchen and Fellowship Hall facilities and operations. This position involves ensuring compliance with health and safety guidelines, maintaining cleanliness, and fostering positive relationships with volunteers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure kitchen workers adhere to safe service guidelines, including proper attire and hygiene practices.
  • Stay informed about changing health codes and ensure compliance with current food service codes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the kitchen, storage areas, and pantry.
  • Coordinate periodic deep cleaning of the kitchen, pantry, and storage areas.
  • Keep the pantry stocked with kitchen staples, monitor inventory levels, and submit timely purchase requests.
  • Prepare and organize ingredients for cooking according to recipes and menu specifications.
  • Cook and assemble short-order food items quickly and efficiently.
  • Receive and/or return deliveries, ensuring accurate reconciliation.
  • Ensure towels and linens are laundered and available for kitchen use.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, coordination, and appreciation for volunteer kitchen workers.
  • Train volunteers on potential hazards and best practices in customer service.
  • Coordinate and direct volunteers for set-up, food service, break-down, and clean-up.
  • Ensure proper dcor, table settings, dining protocol, and service coordination for events.
  • Efficiently coordinate Standard and Special Events, including some off-site events.
  • Be flexible and responsive to unplanned events requiring kitchen facilities use.
  • Foster positive working relationships with a diverse group of people and volunteers.
  • Uphold professional worker relations and customer service practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database software desired.
  • Ability to create positive working relationships with a diverse group of people and volunteers.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Professional, courteous, and friendly personality.
  • Ability to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.
  • Current state Safe Serve Certification.
  • 2 to 3 years of program or project support experience.
  • Previous experience in culinary ministry coordination is desired.
