Position Overview

Work schedule: 20 hours per week

This position coordinates and oversees the general operations of the Center for Community Outreach to develop positive relationships and effective programming with community partners and the KU community. In particular, the Executive Director is tasked with intensively communicating with KU administration, Lawrence community leaders, KU students, and members of various groups, organizations, and committees.

The Executive Director also oversees the CCO staff and serves as Chair of the CCO Advisory Board. Additional responsibilities include advising 7 CCO programs, sitting on various boards and committees, assisting in planning large CCO events, and increasing the KU volunteer base through marketing and promotional strategies. In doing this, the Executive Director must also work closely with the Managing Director to ensure that internal programs, development, and publicity match the community needs while fulfilling the organizations mission.

Job Description

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Peer Advising 7 CCO programsand Creative and Communications Directors. Programs will be divided up between the Executive and Managing Directors with insight from outgoing directors, and CCO advisors.
  • Organizing and leading weekly meetings with the Executive Staff to discuss current and upcoming events, plan CORE meetings, and discuss the current programmatic functioning.
  • Acting as a liaison between the CCO in the University of Kansas and greater Lawrence community through consistent and reliable email communication.
  • Maintaining contact with the United Way, the Center for Service Learning, and others to understand current service needs in Lawrence and on campus. In addition, work collaboratively with United Way to ensure that our volunteer platform, volunteer.ku.edu, is reflective of the current community needs.
  • Coordinating collaborative events with outside organizations and student groups to ensure CCOs role as KUs volunteer hub.
  • Maintaining the CCOs page on Rock Chalk Central by annually updating the constitution and bylaws, managing program coordinators member status, referring students external to CCO who present an interest to the CCO to volunteer.ku.edu, and posting current CCO events.
  • Presenting to various student groups and organizations to increase CCOs visibility.
  • Collaborating with the Managing Director over the summer to plan Super Service Saturday.
  • Chair the CCO Advisory Board . This responsibility includes scheduling, planning, and leading Advisory Board meetings.
  • Work closely with Managing Director to ensure overall program health; meet once a week to discuss current CCO needs.
  • Meet bi-weekly with the CCO advisor to discuss long-term CCO goals and t CCO programming.
  • Organizing the selection of the CCO Program Coordinators and Executive Staff in collaboration with the Managing Director.
  • Conducting regular contact with community partners including surveys to ensure positive programming.
  • Abide by the codes of conduct outlined for the Executive Director in the Student Senate Rules and Regulations Article II Section 14.
  • Responsibilities of the Center for Community Outreach Managing Director, Article VI Section I. Renumeration, and Appendix B Article B.6 Section 4. Center for Community Outreach Advisory Board.
  • Additional tasks and projects as determined throughout the term.


Required Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours at KU.
  • Prior work experience with community outreach and service.
  • Prior work experience leading and working with teams.
  • Experience hosting meetings and giving presentations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with the Center for Community Outreach.
