Job Description
Under the general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician II performs a wide variety of maintenance duties including overseeing effective preventative maintenance plans and schedules for all facility equipment and material handling systems.
The Maintenance Technician II works with a modern conveyor/sorter system that ensures that all equipment operates effectively to meet company production goals and must understand the Preventative Maintenance Programs and general equipment overhaul.
The position requires working knowledge of machine shop equipment and power hand tools. The aptitude for mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are needed to improve the overall equipment service levels. General maintenance of everyday facility issues will be part of this multi-skilled position.
Essential Responsibilities
●
Work in conjunction with other team members to ensure facility and material handling equipment and automated sortation system is running at maximum efficiency with minimum downtime
●
Diagnoses error conditions occurring in the Distribution Center and repairs accordingly
●
Assist the Maintenance department in the execution of preventive maintenance schedules to perform regular maintenance on equipment, including lubrication, change and replace parts, disassembling and assembling workstations etc.
●
Operate industrial machinery and tools to carry out repairs and preventative maintenance
●
Assisting with mechanical modification projects and/or helps with the installation of new conveyor system technology
●
Work independently to install, repair and maintain mechanical equipment related to existing pick- to-belt technology, diverts and “chain/shoe” driver sorter system
●
Immediately perform routine maintenance functions and programs while learning more difficult assignments/tasks from Maintenance Management in the capacity of mechanic’s helper
●
Advise Maintenance Management of proposed improvements to existing preventive maintenance measures to continuously improve effectiveness of the entire automated sorter/conveyor system
●
Assure all assignments are performed in accordance with Environmental, Safety, and Health policies and procedures
●
Follow-up on work orders for repairs, including general departmental/warehouse maintenance as needed
●
Work on projects assignments within a specified time-line requirement and hit projected completion times consistently under the direction of Maintenance Management
●
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support departmental goals and objectives to include performance of routine warehouse duties and responsibilities when appropriate
●
Perform general housekeeping around your work areas
●
Maintains a PC based preventive maintenance program that includes all major pieces of equipment and facility systems that tracks maintenance labor hours and holds mechanics accountable for their performance
●
Associates may require working split shifts nights and weekends as well as being on call to respond to downtime events
Job Experience/Requirements
●
2 Year technical college degree
●
Facilities/Plant Management preferred with extensive experience with startup and troubleshooting of an automated distribution warehouse required
●
Requires 2-3 years directly related and progressively responsible experience in an automated distribution warehouse environment with large volume distribution operations
●
Experience in forklift maintenance
●
Must have previous experience with various equipment (e.g. forklifts, boom truck, and scissor lift) operations and be able to pass an in-house industrial equipment certification immediately upon hire
●
Excellent technical and operational knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment and systems
●
Knowledge of building automation systems such as Dematic sorter is preferred
●
Proactive problem-solving skills; ability to recommend and implement solutions
●
Ability to read and interpret CAD layouts illustrated parts breakdown (IPB) diagrams and electrical circuits diagrams and drawings
●
Ability to troubleshoot complex automated systems controlled by computers programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and microprocessors in a high-volume work environment
●
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain a cooperative working environment
●
Effective written communications presentation skills and organizational skills
●
Ability to operate independently to multi-task and to prioritize quickly
●
Ability to work in a team-based environment, and partner with peers
●
Ability to identify causes of poor efficiency on production lines, set appropriate priorities within the maintenance department and instill a sense of urgency to implement action plans and improve performance
●
CMMS experience
●
Proficient in basic PC skills, Excel, Word and other programs as required
●
Ability to recognize safety hazards and take precautionary measures to protect self and others
●
Ability and willingness to work tactfully under pressure, cope with stress
●
Punctuality must be dependable with excellent attendance

Work Environment
Work is performed in a warehouse environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is often required to use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, lift/move up to 50 pounds, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel or crouch.
