Job Information Job ID: 536683 Location: Blacksburg, Virginia School: CALS Research Level: Administrative & Professional Department: Agriculture & Life Sciences Job Description The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is seeking a Facilities Project Manager (Operations & Maintenance) to lead and coordinate facilities operations and minor construction projects in support of the Office of College Facilities. This role addresses a growing need for dedicated project management across a large and complex facilities portfolio spanning more than 2 million square feet, including over 500 campus buildings, eleven Agricultural Research and Extension Centers (ARECs), and cooperative extension sites across the Commonwealth. This position is essential to strengthening the college’s ability to proactively manage, maintain, and improve its geographically dispersed facilities. This role operates with a high degree of independence, managing multiple concurrent projects and serving as the primary point of contact for project execution. The successful candidate will bring a combination of technical construction expertise and strong administrative and project coordination skills, is highly organized, and has a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and field experience. Regular travel (approximately 20–40%) to AREC locations is required to provide on‑site technical assessment and oversight. While the position is primarily based in Blacksburg, alternative work locations at a college‑operated site, particularly in the central and eastern regions of the state, may be considered to support geographic coverage needs, subject to supervisory approval. Candidates with construction or agriculture experience will be well positioned to serve as an extension of the Office of College Facilities in the field. Strong interpersonal skills are critical, as this role works closely with AREC directors and superintendents, farm staff, contractors, university partners, and other stakeholders. This position is well‑suited for a candidate who enjoys balancing strategic coordination with technical problem‑solving in a dynamic, mission‑driven environment. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent training and field experience, in construction, management, facility management, or a related field. Ability to interpret design and construction documents and effectively administer contracts. Knowledge of building codes and construction means and methods. Excellent communication, organizational, and records‑management skills. Proficiency with Bluebeam or similar digital plan review and markup tools. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Preferred Qualifications Working experience in a higher education or research facility context. Agricultural facility or operations expertise. Knowledge of building systems and preventive maintenance practices. Experience working in geographically dispersed environments. OSHA 10 or 30‑hour certificate in general industry or construction. Familiarity with safety practices (construction and/or agricultural settings). Other Job Details Overtime Status: Exempt – Not eligible for overtime. Appointment Type: Regular. Salary Information: $75,000 – $80,000; commensurate with experience. Hours per week: 40 hours. Review Date: July 15, 2026. Additional Information Must wear safety/PPE equipment. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must have a safe driving record. This position is designated as emergency personnel and must have the ability to meet a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends, and be available on‑call by telephone and/or cell phone for critical or time‑sensitive needs. The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
