Fax 406‑265‑3530 Position Overview The College of Technical Sciences at Montana State University‑Northern (MSUN) invites applications for a 10‑month (academic‑year) faculty position in Diesel Technology/Agricultural Mechanics Technology to begin August 1, 2026. The position may be filled as a tenure‑track Assistant Professor or a non‑tenure‑track Lecturer I. Effective teaching is the primary mission of MSU‑Northern. The benefits package includes paid employee health insurance, retirement plans, paid sick leave, one floating holiday, 12 paid holidays, and Montana University System tuition waivers. Responsibilities Teach approximately 24 credit hours of lecture/laboratory courses per academic year in Diesel Technology and/or Agricultural Mechanics Technology, including fuel systems, electrical/electronic systems, powertrains, chassis, air conditioning, and agricultural equipment. Provide academic and career advising. Participate in curriculum development, program growth, and program assessment. Engage with an external industry‑specific advisory board. Serve on campus committees, participate in campus activities, and act as an ambassador and collegiate member of the College of Technical Sciences. Required Qualifications Education and experience commensurate with rank (Assistant Professor or Lecturer I). Industry experience in the Diesel Technology and/or Agricultural Mechanics fields with increasing responsibility and demonstrated expertise. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications. Strong interpersonal skills. Note: For tenure‑track, a master’s degree will be required for tenure. A bachelor’s degree in diesel technology or related field will be required to be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor. Preferred Qualifications Recent industry work experience with a strong background in electrical/electronics, hydraulics, brakes, suspensions, heavy‑duty automatic transmissions, engines, air conditioning, powertrains, and agricultural equipment in the diesel or agriculture industry. Experience with grain harvesting equipment, agricultural tractors, forage implements, sprayers, tillage, and planting implements. Willingness to embrace new technologies. Teaching Demonstration A teaching demonstration by the candidate will be required as part of the interview process. Physical Demands Ability to work in an office, classroom or laboratory environment with or without reasonable accommodations. Program Information The Diesel Technology Program at MSUN provides students with a balanced, detail‑oriented education that teaches principles and systems used in the industry, complemented by hands‑on training on a wide variety of industry‑standard machines and equipment.
