We are hiring a Family Support Partner for one of our clients in Fairfax, VA.

If your professional values are focused around assisting youth and their families with community-based interventions to lessen the likelihood of an out of home placement, exploring strategies with families to allow them to independently resolve challenges, provide hope to families when their children are having severe mental health experiences, and see the value in the synergy of clinical interventions and the lived experience of peer supports to help a youth and their family reach their goals for recovery, then this may be the position for you!

We are seeking qualified applicants to fill a part-time Family Support Partner position in the Turning Point Program.

About This Role:

  • Client offers a team environment and flexible work hours, and encourages collaboration with other staff including peer support specialist, education and employment specialists, outpatient therapists, case managers, and psychiatrists.

In this role you will:

  • Provide leadership at all levels in the creation and maintenance of a positive and collaborative working environment where all Turning Point staff and enrolled youth and their families feel respected and supported.
  • Use personal past experiences, provide peer support to parents/caregivers served in the Turning Point program, including current and former families.
  • Assist parents/caregivers with successful engagement, advocacy, and connection to formal and informal resources helping them build resiliency as a family.
  • Provide effective peer support utilizing the Coordinated Specialty Care framework for services to parents/caregivers.
  • Develop and implement family support treatment plans to promote progress of client and family.
  • Timely clinical documentation into EHR that meets requisite agency, Federal, Medicaid, MCO and licensure standards.
  • Administer to all youth and families being served related data tools completed at identified data collection points.
  • Attend youth and family team meetings as appropriate. Coach parents/caregivers and family members on how to advocate for themselves.
  • Document of all services, contacts and attempted contact with client, their family and collaterals.
  • Maintain healthy boundaries with clients and their families.
  • Attend all mandatory county and state trainings as appropriate.
  • Participate in individual and group coaching, as required.
  • Carry an after-hours work phone and provide telephone and, at times, face-to-face after-hours support to youth and families

Skills required:

  • Must be the biological or adoptive parent or person in the parent role who has been the primary caregiver of a child with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges
  • Must have experience navigating the Virginia behavioral health systems with their child.

Skills Preferred:

  • Prior experience related to psychosis or at-risk for psychosis (either as a family member or family support partner)
  • Experience collaborating with families, natural supports, and other community stakeholders
  • Be a proficient user level of MS Suite and an EHR
  • Bilingual and multilingual candidates encouraged to apply

Experience required:

  • 1 years of experience providing recovery services in a human services environment
  • Experience assessing client needs and providing access to appropriate services
  • Experience providing clinical documentation necessary to maintain client records including treatment planning/wellness recovery plan, progress notes, quarterly reviews and annual assessments
  • Be a proficient user level of MS Suite and an EHR.

Experience Preferred:

  • 3 years of experience providing services to youth and families with complex mental health, substance use and co-occurring disorders
  • 1-2 years of experience providing recovery services in a human services environment
  • Prior experience related to psychosis or at-risk for psychosis (either as a family member or family support partner)
  • Experience with and participating in CSC interventions or in family partnership meetings
  • Experience collaborating with families, natural supports, and other community stakeholders

Education Required:

  • Minimum High school diploma or GED required

Education Preferred

  • Certification or registration or considering certification or registration as a Parent Support Partner, Peer Recovery Specialist or National Certified Peer Specialist
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counselling or a related behavioral science field
