Location: Calvert, AL

Project: Steel Mill

Duration: 8+ months

Salary: $32 - $35/hour - 1.5X OT

Per Diem: $130/day

Expected work schedule: 6-10s.

Target start date / availability: ASAP

We are seeking a Field Engineer to support construction activities on a large-scale industrial steel mill project. This role will work closely with field supervision and project management to track installation progress, support reporting efforts, and assist with coordination between engineering and construction teams.


This is an excellent opportunity for someone with hands on construction experience who is looking to transition into a more technical, office and field coordination role.


Key Responsibilities

Track and report installed quantities for:

  • Equipment setting
  • Structural steel installation and supports
  • Maintain daily and weekly production reports to support project controls and progress tracking
  • Enter and manage data in spreadsheets and project tracking systems (including Procore)
  • Work with field supervisors to verify completed work and ensure accurate reporting

Assist with RFI (Request for Information) process:

  • Help identify field issues
  • Gather necessary documentation (photos, sketches, markups)
  • Support submission and tracking of RFIs
  • Review drawings and specifications to understand scope and installation requirements
  • Perform field walks to monitor progress, identify issues, and support coordination efforts
  • Maintain organized project documentation including logs, reports, and field notes
  • Support communication between craft labor, supervision, and engineering teams


Qualifications

  • 1–5 years of construction experience in industrial, commercial, or heavy civil environments
  • Background as a craft worker (ironworker, millwright, laborer, etc.) is strongly encouraged
  • Prior experience as a Field Engineer or Field Coordinator is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and basic specifications
  • Comfortable using computers for daily tasks including data entry, spreadsheets, and construction software (Procore or similar)
  • Strong attention to detail, especially around quantities and reporting
  • Comfortable working both in the field and in a site office environment


Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Someone currently working in the field who wants to move into a more technical role
  • Comfortable using a laptop or tablet on site for tracking and reporting work
  • Reliable, organized, and able to take direction from project leadership
  • Not afraid to ask questions and dig into drawings or field conditions
  • Comfortable being around heavy industrial construction environments
