Wisconsin Field Organizer - Farm-to-Power

Employer: Farm-to-Power

Position: Field Organizer

Remote work allowed: Yes, but applicants must reside in Wisconsin to be considered.

Travel Required: Yes, frequent travel is required. All travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Pay and Benefits: $5,000/month full-time, part-time fees negotiated.

Job Type: 1099, full-time and part-time positions available.

Who We Are:

Farm-to-Power (FTP) is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) information and advocacy platform born of the great need to provide balance in the dialogue around the impact of clean energy infrastructure in rural, agriculturally based communities.

Farm to Powers mission is to work in collaboration with agricultural organizations and farming and ranching communities to identify and then target areas where there is the most significant risk of information gaps driving critical decisions around the development of clean energyincluding utility-scale wind and solar farms as well as the transmission infrastructure interconnecting these vital resources.

We aim to support a coalition of farmers, ranchers and community stakeholders with agricultural backgrounds willing to support renewable and transmission projects and use their voices and platforms to encourage others in agricultural communities or with agricultural backgrounds to do the same.

Position Description Farm to Power is hiring a Field Organizer (FO) to serve as a member of our front-line staff for public outreach, volunteer mobilization, event management, coalition building, and driving our overall campaign to success. The FO will be responsible for the day-to-day organizing tactics and carrying out our broader strategic objectives in accordance with the mission set by our Executive Director and State Director. The FO will work on public outreach, coalition building, issue advocacy, and campaign communications within the state. The FO will report to the State Director.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Field Campaigning. Proven track record of success in community and/or political organizing, coalition building, engaging elected officials, and being a part of large, complex campaigns specifically in rural communities.
  • Organization Building. A natural leader who will identify, recruit, train, and develop a base of organization supporters (advocates, volunteers, action takers) Build an organization around a culture that promotes diversity, transparency, collaboration, and a desire to change the world for the better.
  • Communications. Skilled communicator who is comfortable taking on controversial issues by talking to voters on their doorsteps, presenting at large group community meetings, speaking with local press, and being a public-facing voice of our campaign.
  • Stakeholder Partnerships. Demonstrated experience in building issue-based or political coalitions to support candidates/causes.Good judgment with stakeholders and can work with a diverse coalition of partner organizations.
  • Strategy. Ensures numeric goals and key milestones are met to drive strategy and the success of our campaign. Compiles detailed reporting on campaign progress daily, weekly, and as needed for the overall campaign reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned based on campaign needs.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years experience in non-profit, political, community organizing, campaign-related work required.
  • Experience in agriculture and/ or renewable energy is a plus but not required.

Other:

  • Must have a commitment to renewable energy and organizing in rural communities.
  • Must be able to travel extensively within the region (all travel-related expenses paid).
  • Must be able to work some weekends, evenings, and irregular hours based on campaign needs.
  • Must have a car, drivers license, and valid insurance. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
