Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Field Survey Manager to lead and oversee land surveying operations for development and construction projects in the San Diego area. This role requires strong leadership, technical surveying expertise, and the ability to manage both field and office teams while ensuring high-quality, efficient, and compliant project delivery. This position offers long-term growth opportunities and involvement in complex, high-impact projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations Management: Manage daily operations of the survey department, including leading both field and office teams.
  • Technical Oversight: Oversee boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys; review survey data, CAD work, and coordinate geometry for accuracy.
  • Financial & Client Management: Develop and maintain client, contractor, and agency relationships; prepare/review proposals, contracts, budgets, and project financials.
  • Compliance & QC: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local surveying regulations and lead quality control/assurance processes.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise field crews; ensure accurate daily documentation; mentor and train survey staff; support the implementation of new equipment and software.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of land surveying experience.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred or ability to obtain within 180 days.
  • Strong experience managing survey teams and department operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Civil 3D.
  • Strong understanding of survey procedures, control, staking, and jobsite safety.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
