We are looking for a Field Technical Specialist!
Summary: The Field Technical Specialist provides on-site technical expertise for insulated metal panel (IMP) systems and related accessories. This role ensures installations comply with manufacturer-supplied details and specifications, supports contractors and installers, conducts weathertight warranty inspections, and resolves technical issues. The role is responsible for evaluating field conditions, providing installation guidance, and developing repair strategies that carry high cost, schedule, and warranty implications, supporting high-value financial decisions in coordination with management. The Field Technical Specialist acts as a technical liaison between the company and the field, ensuring compliance with building codes, safety standards, and product performance requirements as well as mitigating risk, protecting warranty exposure, and supporting customer satisfaction on complex projects.
Essential Duties:Customer Support
- Serve as technical authority on-site for complex projects, interfacing directly with owners, general contractors, consultants, and inspectors.
- Support resolution of escalated field issues where technical judgment directly influences customer satisfaction, project outcomes, and financial exposure.
Installation Compliance:
- Verify that all IMP installations follow manufacturer-supplied details, specifications, and approved shop drawings.
- Ensure proper alignment, fastening, sealing, and accessory integration to maintain thermal performance and weathertightness.
Troubleshooting & Repairs:
- Diagnose and resolve issues such as panel damage, improper sealing, thermal bridging, or fastener failures.
- Evaluate repair options and develop technically sound remediation strategies considering cost, constructability, warranty impact, and long-term performance.
- Provide repair recommendations involving significant material, labor, and schedule implications, with final approval coordinated through management.
Weathertight Warranty Inspections & Reviews:
- Conduct detailed inspections of completed installations to confirm compliance with manufacturer guidelines and warranty requirements.
- Document findings, identify deficiencies, and provide corrective recommendations to maintain warranty eligibility.
Quality Assurance:
- Inspect installations for adherence to specifications and industry standards.
- Assess field conditions that may impact warranty exposure, liability, or long-term system performance and recommend mitigation strategies accordingly.
- Support management in determining acceptance, repair, or replacement scopes based on technical risk and financial impact.
- Prepare reports outlining compliance status and corrective measures.
Customer Training:
- Deliver training sessions for contractors and distributors on best practices for IMP installation, handling, and maintenance per manufacturer specifications.
Technical Documentation:
- Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
- Prepare detailed technical assessments and repair recommendations that support internal approval of high-cost corrective actions, warranty determinations, or field resolutions.
Product Feedback:
- Identify systemic installation or product-related issues with potential financial or warranty exposure and escalate findings to engineering, quality, and leadership teams.
- Communicate recurring issues and customer feedback used to inform product improvements, installation guidance, and risk reduction strategies.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all work meets OSHA safety standards and applicable building codes.
- Follow the Group Code of Conduct and Group Compliance.
- Follow Compliance requirements per “KNA-SOP-1705 Compliance Roles and Responsibilities.”`
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 10+ years in field service, construction, or technical support within the metal building construction.
- Strong knowledge of building product installation, building envelope principles, and installation practices preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturer details, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and hand/power tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, coordinate with engineering, procurement, and fabrication groups, and oversee site execution.
- Experienced in building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Proficient in Adobe Acrobat Pro and Bluebeam Revu for document preparation, review, and technical markups.
- Basic proficiency in Salesforce for data entry, information review, and record management.
Other Skills and Requirements:
- Deep understanding of construction methods, structural systems, and large-scale project execution.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
