Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Finance Manager, the Finance Specialist facilitates financial services and Business Service operations of LaGrange College. The Finance Specialist has responsibilities in the areas of student accounts, accounts payable, cash management and reconciliation and budget management. The Finance Specialist works closely with the Finance Manager to ensure the integrity of the institution’s financial information and accounting policies and procedures. Job Duties (but not limited to): Works with the Business Office staff to ensure internal controls, business processes, and policies are efficient and effective and follow the College’s mission Assists with the annual external audit process Assists with monthly and fiscal year end close processes, and the production of periodic financial reports for internal and external users Assures student billing process for student accounts is sound and provides support to the student account functional area as needed Draws all federal funds through G5 and makes certain federal guidelines are followed Assesses cash needs, manages cash flow and maximizes the appropriate use of funds with the support of the Finance Manager Prepares monthly and annual cash flow projections Assists with budget preparation and departmental budget management Works with various areas of the college to assure best financial practices and policies are adhered to across campus Ensures compliance with federal and state laws, specifically the Department of Education Trains staff as needed Performs other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree is required, with a preferred emphasis in accounting. Preference given to a master's degree and/or CPA certification. 3-5 years progressively responsible financial management experience is required, preferred within a private higher education institution or not-for-profit entity. Experience with Jenzabar-One or similar ERP system preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with faculty, staff, students and all key members of the college and local community Knowledge, understanding, and business application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), FASB and other financial principles Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, general business programs, policies and procedures is required to insure effective/efficient use and distribution of financial and other resources Ability to respond effectively to numerous and varied situations, analyze issues, and respond quickly and correctly to resolve problems and support the needs of students, faculty, staff, and other LaGrange College community members Ability to be a 'team player' with the desire to promote the entire college and all of its programs through energetic and effective coordination with applicable departments and appropriate external organizations and agencies Ability to provide effective leadership and mentoring of business office staff LaGrangeCollege is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sex, age, national origin, disability, veteran status or any other legally protected status. #J-18808-Ljbffr
