Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Financial Analyst supporting the Virginia Wine (VWDC) and Beer Distribution Company (VBDC) Operations Managers. These companies are non-stock, non-profit corporations that use independent, proprietary software programs for sales and financial transactions and reporting. This new position will collaborate with both operations managers by providing accounting/fiscal and administrative support duties in compliance with the Commonwealth and Agency policies, applicable laws and regulations as well as operating rules and procedures of the VWDC and VBDC. Duties include downloading and posting daily deposit reports; assisting with financial reporting and monthly reconciliations of completed sales transactions; providing support for VWDC and VBDC Board meetings; and additional tasks such as filing, records maintenance, etc. Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealths telework policy.

Minimum Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge of accounting concepts and fiscal operations to include internal controls and financial reconciliations along with knowledge of standard office practices and procedures. Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work with numerical data, make accurate calculations and prepare routine financial reports; to analyze policy guidance, solution problematic circumstances, and maintain compliance; to independently research and resolve problems in a timely manner; to schedule meetings, take minutes and prepare presentation materials; and to be detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Effective customer services skills in order to professionally interact with and assist internal and external clients, state and federal agencies and industry, consumer groups, retail establishments and citizens. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong proficiency using Microsoft Excel to include accurate data entry and proficiency with spreadsheets and other financial software. Proficiency using data visualization software such as Power BI, Tableau, or other visual analytics platform. Must be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, work independently in a fast-paced environment. H.S. Diploma/GED required.

Additional Considerations

A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities to include knowledge of accounting or business administration.
