Financial ConsultantWe are seeking an experienced Financial Consultant to support the Chief Financial Officer in reviewing and enhancing our financial operations. This role will focus on evaluating current processes, improving efficiency, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring best practice financial management across the department. This is a high-impact, advisory engagement ideal for a senior finance professional with municipal and/or non-profit experience who can operate strategically while also providing hands-on support.Responsibilities:Review and assess existing finance department processes, workflows, and controls.Partner directly with the CFO to identify opportunities to streamline operations and improve effectiveness.Recommend and help implement process improvements across core finance functions, including accounting, budgeting, reporting, AP/AR, payroll, and audit preparation.Evaluate use of financial systems and tools; recommend improvements or optimization strategies.Develop documentation, procedures, and best practice guidelines to support consistency and sustainability.Assist with change management, staff support, and knowledge transfer as improvements are implemented.Serve as a trusted advisor on municipal and non-profit finance best practices and compliance requirements.Additional Skills & Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.10+ years of senior-level finance experience with demonstrated process improvement or operational leadership.Prior experience in municipal, governmental, and/or non-profit finance environments.Strong understanding of public sector accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.Proven ability to analyze complex processes and implement practical, effective solutions.Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with executive leadership.CPA, CGFM, CMA, or similar certification preferred.Experience advising or supporting CFOs or Finance Directors.Consulting or advisory background within the public or non-profit sector.Work Environment:The work schedule is Monday to Thursday, with 30-35 hours per week.Job Type & Location:This is a Contract position based out of Tolland, CT.Pay and Benefits:The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
